When my alarm started blaring at 6 in the morning, I didn't hit the snooze button. Instead, I shot out of my bed and changed into my training clothes. I didn't need to put my hair in a bun since now it was too short. I made myself some eggs and went outside to stretch for a few minutes before the others arrived.
I looked around until I spotted my partner. Once again, she was hanging around some other girls. They all wore two sports bras, but none of their chests were large enough to warrant that many. When the beta came out to join us everyone got to work immediately. My partner ran off in the opposite direction and I saw her fighting with a boy. When she spotted me approaching her, she took a step away from the boy
"Evan put me with him since you were gone" I marched up to the beta, who I was assuming was Evan.
"So, who's my partner now?" I put my hand on my hip and a smug smirk rose to his face.
"I am." My jaw dropped.
"What?"
"Yep" I didn't move and continued to stare at him
"I watched you train a few times in the night. You seem really driven to learn to fight so I thought I'd teach you myself."
"I don't understand"
"Listen, I'm not supposed to tell you why. Let's just say that you're special"
"That's not funny"
"I mean it" I crossed my arms and rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, whatever"
"Fine, then I won't teach you how to fight" He turned and started to walk off
"No" I reached out and snatched his arm to keep him from leaving. He turned to look at me and smiled.
"First let's fix your stance. Don't move" he removed himself from my grasp and I uncomfortably stood leaning on nothing. I wasn't having a hard time not to squirm. "Do you see what's wrong? You can't balance." He walked around me and pushed lightly on my shoulder. At the new pressure I was no longer able to stand, and I toppled over.
"What was that for?" I was annoyed
"A fighter should always have the upper hand. You need to ensure that you are always on the balls of your feet. You should be balanced no matter what you do. You need to have smooth actions. The transitions between your movements need to be graceful."
"I don’t know how to do that" He sighed at me.
"Don't move" As he walked away, my eyes landed on my mate. I corrected my posture, pushing my chest out and tilting my chin upwards. Aidan kept a stony face. I watched as he slowly made his way towards me.
"So, training sessions with me weren't enough" He seemed annoyed.
"We only trained once. It was a one-time thing"
"I could've trained with you the other nights"
"Well, how was I supposed to know that. It’s not like we talk on a daily basis."
"Well, maybe you should try harder." He was testing my patience now.
"What is that supposed to mean? I don't know the first thing about you. All I know is that you're my mate and you have a Luna and although you don't want me you don't want me to reject you."
"Not so loud, the others might hear. Remember our agreement?"
"Oh really... thought the agreement was tossed out the window when you f****d Olivia and I passed out for 5 days" His eyes softened a little when I said that, but his stony look returned soon after.
"Sorry for mating with my Luna." I narrowed my eyes at her title. He was trying to rub it in. I dug my nails into my skin, trying not to let my annoyance show. We stared at each other for a few seconds
"f**k it" I threw my hands up in the air and walked off.
"Wait!" I heard him call out
"What the hell do you want now?" I snapped
"Training room, eleven, tonight. Be there" His eyes flicked to my hands. I looked down and unclenched my fists. I had pushed my nails in so hard I drew blood. When I looked up, I saw Evan coming back with 6 books piled in his arms. He dropped them in the grass and noticed the tension immediately.
"What's going on?" He asked, and I wondered how much he knew about the situation.
"He was just leaving. Right?" I glared at Aidan
"Right, I've got a mate to see" He smirked at me. I raised my eyes at him.
"It would be really suspicious if I passed out again" I smirked back at him. It was his turn to glare at me.
After he left Evan turned to me.
"So, you're going to balance all these books on your head"
"All 6 books?"
"Yep" He seemed unaffected about the conversation he heard between us, even though it was uncustomary to speak to your Alpha in the way I had just done. He piled all 6 books on my head and told me to walk through the field, dodging the other pack members.
People gave me weird looks and I had a hard time because my neck felt like it was being crushed. When I made it back to Evan, he let me take the books off to rest my neck.
"If you want, I can train with you tonight" I weighed his and Aidan’s offer. Do I want to spend 3 hours arguing with my mate? Not really.[SC1]
"What time?"
"Maybe 10? I usually see you training at around 10"
"Sure" Maybe Aidan would see us training and get jealous. Instantly I was surprised that I had even thought that.
Once I was rested and my neck didn't hurt anymore, we went back at it. This time I only had 5 books stacked on my head. Evan guided me through the different stances making sure that the books didn't topple off. We did most of it in silence because I was trying hard to concentrate on keeping the books on my head.
"It must be hard"
"Yeah, the books keep sliding off one another"
"No, I mean with Aidan"
"What?"
"That you're his mate and everything" My body froze, and all the books fell off my head at the sudden movement.
"How do you know?" My eyes were wide
"I figured it out, I knew he would find his mate eventually. He thought that you would just magically disappear since he fully mated with another girl. I figured it out on the first night. And, Mason told me"
"Mason?"
"Oh, the Alpha's brother. You talked with him during the party for your joining of the pack" I remember Mason now. I hadn't seen or talked to him since.
"Where is he?"
"He does a lot of traveling in other packs, but he came back to welcome you to the pack"
"Why"
"I already told you"
"No, you didn't"
"You're special"
"Stop f*****g with me." I set the books back on my head and got back into my stance.
~~.~~
After my shower, I looked for Max. He was playing with a few other children. Olivia was with them again. Didn't she have better things to do? She glared at me when Max spotted me and ran to me. I remembered her tantrum a few days ago. She didn't say anything to me, only watched as Max and I trudged into the forest. We were heading towards our secret tree spot.
Considering he was so young, he a lot of things to say. He seemed especially fascinated about mates. He hated the fact that he had to wait a few years before being able to see her. When I parted with him, it was around 9 pm. I headed backing into my room to change into my training gear and then ate a quick dinner. I had gotten into the habit of skipping lunch for some reason and although it was probably a very unhealthy thing to do, two meals seemed to be enough food for me. When I finished I headed for the training room. Evan was waiting for me.
"We're not going to work with the books anymore." I sighed in relief.
"Thank god"
"We’re actually going to fight. I'll go easy on you"
He put his fists up and lunged at me. I quickly punched him in the stomach before he had a chance to reach me. He wasn't too happy about that. He lunged at me again and we continued fighting until we tired out and decided to take a break. Only half an hour had passed.
"We’re going to do what we call conditioning now. It's basically just muscle building. You’re getting better on your feet, but you also need strength and practice"
We moved from one exercise to the other. At one point doing an excersize, I’d never heard of before. Evan was behind me with his arms around me, guiding me into the correct position when I heard a growl that sent a shiver up my spine and goosebumps down my arms.
"What are you doing here?" Aidan called
"What are you doing here?" Evan retorted.
"I have training with her at 11"
"I have training with her at 10" They turned to look at me. I shrugged my shoulders.
"Why were you touching her?" My mate asked possessively.
"I was helping her"
"Don't. I can help her. You can leave"
"No," I said.
"I am the Alpha and you will do as I say"
"And I am the rightful Luna so you must do what I say" His eyes flickered to Evan and he stared me down.
"Don't say that." He said this through clenched teeth.
"Why? Are you afraid your precious Olivia will leave you? So be it" He growled in response
"Watch your tone"
"You watch your tone" I spat back "Go away, we’re training"
"No. You will train with me" He turned to Evan and used an Alpha command. "Leave".
Evan had no choice but to leave.
"That's not fair," I said.
"What's not fair?"
"Forget it. I don't want to train with you." I grabbed my stuff but a hand on my wrist held me back, sending sparks up my arm that I was sure that he was feeling too.
"Don't go"
"You're so indecisive" I yelled at him "One minute you hate me, the next you want me to stay? What's wrong with you? Why can't you just pick? Do you hate me or not?"
"I don't hate anyone."
"Then why do you act like you do?" He didn't answer. I stared into his eyes for a moment.
"Let go of me" He didn't respond. "Let go" He didn't move. I couldn't pry myself from his grip because he was too damn strong. Suddenly, he let go of my wrist to grab my closed fist and unclench my hand. Once again, I had drawn blood from my nails digging into my skin. He looked down appalled at my palm.
"You did this to yourself" I didn't answer him, he seemed so heartbroken "I made you do this to yourself" He looked up at me. He looked horror-stricken.
"Let go of me," I said quietly "Please" I whispered. Suddenly fingers laced through mine and his lips were on mine. This kiss was different from our first one. This time it was soft and caring. I could feel how sorry he was. I moaned quietly, it felt so right. I didn't want to think about Olivia. I didn't want to think about his mood swings. I didn't want to think about why I was in a coma for a few days. I didn't want to think, period. He ran his free hand into my hair and I wrapped my free arm around his neck. He was putting so much weight on me that I had to keep taking steps back until eventually, I was up against the wall. He let go of my hand when he came up for air. His hands held my cheeks and he pressed his forehead onto mine.
"I'm sorry for everything" I wanted to forgive him, but I knew that as soon as he left, I would regret it. Our eyes were closed and before I knew it, his lips were on mine again. This time he was a bit more aggressive. He pulled my head towards him and I was running my hands through his hair. He didn't ask for anything more, so I took the step for him. I lightly grazed my teeth on his lip and asked for entrance. He declined, but soon I felt him ask for the same thing, which I gave him. His lips traveled down kissing my jaw before making his way to my neck. I felt him run over the spot where my mark should've been, and I wanted to cry. I would never get a mark there because he had already marked another girl. He quickly moved on from my mark spot when he realized my change in mood. He littered my neck in kisses and I knew what he was looking for. When his lips grazed my soft spot I nearly melted into his arms, moaning softly. He brought his lips back to mine, smirking slightly.
"You’re driving me crazy" I heard him say in between kisses. All of a sudden, we hear a high pitch screech
"YOU!" Olivia charged towards me, her finger pointed at me. "YOU LITTLE b***h" She marched up to me and before I had a chance to react her palm came flying towards my face, clean slapping me across my cheek.
"Oh, right I'm the little b***h," I muttered sarcastically, trying not to show how angry to slap had made me.
"You are stealing my mate"
"You mean my mate" I knew I shouldn't have said that, but she was on my very last nerve. Her face fell and she looked from Aidan to me to back to Aidan several times.
"What?" Her eyes welled up with tears and Aidan was quick to scoop her up in his arms "Is that true, Aidan" She looked at him with watery eyes.
"Yes, but I still love you. You will always be the Luna. I love you. It's okay. It's just a little mishap and we'll go over it and everything will be okay, and you will still be my Luna and I will never leave you" Each word was a stab to my heart. Neither of them noticed when I left, my own tears welling up in my eyes. I didn't go to my room, instead, I went to Max and I’s tree spot. I knew that in the forest, I could cry my heart out and nobody would hear me. And so that's exactly what I did.
