The days seemed to blur together while the Black Moon pack waited for Susan and the guys to make a move, they seemed to have been laying low planning something big. The warriors Tommy had sent out reported that there had been a lot of people coming in and out of the house. Cassie suggested looking into the background of them all to see what they were up against, and that is just what they did.

Between Cassie, Tommy, Jake, and Sarah they managed to find out everything about Susan, Jeff, James, and Scott. Granted it took a few days because of the encrypted files that they found. “Hey, guys check this out,” Sarah said from her computer, they all perked their ears to her, “It says here that Jeff and Susan are originally from New York and that they were arrested about 20 years ago for the death of Susan's brother, they were later released when new evidence was found that suggested he was attacked by some sort of animal.” Sarah informed them “It also says that Susan had been arrested 17 years ago in connection with k********g but nothing ever came of that because of faulty information, I wonder if that had anything to do with you Cassie?” she turned and looked at Cassie who just shrugged her shoulders. A few hours later, Tommy managed to dig up their known associates and he didn't like what he found “Guys we may have a bigger problem than we thought” the group looked at him “It says here that they were part of some cult of self-proclaimed hunters that kill werewolves, they have relatives and friends in this group going back 20 plus year” Tommy was looking concerned “No one believes that though because they didn’t know that werewolves existed and those that did were sworn to secrecy.” “What does that mean exactly,” Cassie asked him “It means that we are in for a hell of a fight if what this article says is true” Tommy told her.

They took a break from their research for a while. They decided to grab something to eat and get a few hours of rest because they had been staring at screens for the past 6 hours. Tommy suggested going for a run to let the wolves relax for a bit the rest of the group agreed. They ate and then headed outside to shift. They all shifted except for Cassie, she wanted to go for a run as did her wolf, but something was stopping her. She perked her ears up at the sounds of the pack and that's when she sensed something wasn't right. She motioned for everyone to listen, they all heard the screaming.

Tommy was the first to act, he mind linked everyone and told them to get to the packhouse, he then told the security to close formation around the close perimeter. Cassie shifted and saw people running toward the house. She knew what was coming and she was ready for it. Not long after the group all stood together in front of the packhouse they saw the smoke that was rising in the distance. They all thought the same thing, Susan and the guys had made their first move.

Tommy called all his warriors around the house, no one got in. He went to stand shoulder to shoulder with Cassie, she had Jake and Sarah on either side of her, they were all ready for a fight. They waited for what seemed like hours when they saw Susan, Jeff, James, and Scott but they were not alone. Following behind, there were at least 100 hunters. “Well, well, well, looky what we have here. I see Cassie did get her wolf at last” Susan sneered at her “You do know you're on the losing side don't you dear, we could have been great together” Cassie snarled at her and Tommy moved to stand in front of her, growling a warning. Sarah and Jake closed ranks as well as the warriors around them.

No one heard the shot but Tommy saw one of his warriors fall. He left into action with the rest of them in tow. Cassie went after Susan, she didn't put up a fight as Cassie went after her, she just smiled. Cassie ripped her to shreds for everything she had done, next on her list was James and Scott. She found them fighting with Tommy, she managed to sneak up on them and bit Scott's head off, and turned to James who was cornered. Both she and Tommy bared their teeth at him. Cassie finished him with one swipe of her paw, cutting him in half. They both knew Jeff was next, he was standing on the front line giving orders to his band of hunters. Tommy got to him first and ripped his throat out. Cassie heard the howl before she saw what had happened.

Sarah and Jake had gotten cut off from the rest of the group, fighting the hunter 3 to 1. Sarah had gotten most of the hunters off of her but it wasn't fast enough, a hunter slipped by Jake and slit her throat. Jake killed the hunter but it was too late, he let out an ear-piercing howl. He fought to back the hunters up and saw that Cassie had arrived to help. She saw the blood pooling around Sarah and she went into a frenzy. Tommy saw what had happened and knew that this wasn't going to be good, he bounded over to where his mate and his beta were fighting, they managed to kill the hunters surrounding them.

The fight was over a few hours later, the hunters had tried to run but Tommy sent warriors after them and told them to kill them. He looked out over the yard that had been turned into a battleground. He knew that he had lost over half of his warriors. Jake and Cassie stood by Sarah's body. Jake's heart broke as he stared at his mate. Cassie was crying over her best friend. It was a bloody mess but at least the threat was over. They could live in peace for a while.

 The flowing day was full of funerals. Jake had asked Tommy if he could step down as his beta, Tommy understood and he let Jake leave, there was nothing there for him anymore. Cassie mourned her friend and it broke Tommy's heart to see her in this state but he knew he had to let her grieve. The bodies had all been burned and when the smoke had cleared they spread the ashes around the property. It was a sad day for the Black Moon Pack, they had all lost friends and family. It could have been a lot worse if Cassie hadn’t alerted them of the screams. The pack mourned for all they had lost but we're grateful it was over.
