CHAPTER 27 : City Life

The city lights gave me unfamiliar yet satisfying visuals. Tall buildings surrounded me compared to the gigantic trees that I used to see. It was a week that had passed, and I miss my life in the pack already, though I’m not sure which pack I am thinking about. But obviously, it was the Black Stygian, with Celestine and Rosa's presence.

The chaos in the airport the day of Chantal’s abduction was caused by Rosa, she shifted to her wolf while I run for my life. Being surrounded by humans, their reaction doesn’t surprise me anymore. It’s also Rosa’s way to inform Chantal probably that there were other werewolves than them for them to be aware. Since Chantal has Alpha Primo’s men with her, I’m sure she was able to escape without being abducted.

Rosa’s passport brought me to this amazing place, in the city of Chicago Illinois. I’ve heard about this place once from my parents, but I don’t know much about it. Along with Rosa’s passport, were also keys to one of the expensive hotels here. I’ve got to know from the staff at the counter that the whole room was paid for a lifetime already. I was shocked at it because Rosa probably has plans to escape or to live here instead of staying in the pack, I’m not sure what’s stopping her from doing so, or she was about to escape until I came into the picture. I hope she’s fine. I owe her my life, and I’ll repay her as the time comes. What she did was a risk for their pack, shifting with humans around is forbidden, though it’s not they weren’t aware of our existence, at least we wanted to separate our life from them, give them peace, away from fear that we might attack them. Unfortunately, it was human hunters who attacks us and wanted to kill us even if we were living in the depth of the forest.

“Sierra, table four please.”

Sierra was Rosa’s real name. And I have to use it while I stay in her suite, and pretend to her. It was a shame for me to steal her identity but I have left no choice, or I’ll freeze to death outside.

“Sure.” I gave Sabrina, my colleague a small smile back before I went to the table number she mentioned. It was a huge adjustment for me, but serving is the only thing I knew. I have been training for three days, and it was a short time for me to learn everything. However, I didn’t stop, knowing that I have to make a living, for my food expenses, after discovering that living in a city like this was too expensive for me. Rosa was a lifesaver indeed, with her fully paid suit, I don’t have to worry about my shelter anymore. But as soon as I earned much, I’ll buy my own. I’m sure Rosa work hard for it, and it would be a shame for me to use it freely.

“Good morning Sir, how may I help you today?” I asked flashing a wide smile, as soon as I approach two white men, wearing their beach outfits. The restaurant I was working at has a beachfront, some even wear bikinis as they order so it doesn’t surprise me anymore. I mean seeing a naked body doesn’t shock me as after a werewolf’s shifting they became naked, and I get used to it. But the idea that they were humans, I thought they were conservative with the way they wear their clothes.

One of the men eyed me from head to foot, and that made me uncomfortable.

“Are you new here?” He asked, he was young, more like five years older than me like Alpha Primo.

“Yes Sir.”

“I see, for how long?”

“It’s been day five since I got hired,” I answered politely.

“Would like a drink or anything?” I continued to stop prolonging the conversation.

“Oh right, gave us two beers and two slices of strawberry cake.”

“Perfect, I’ll get back to you in a minute.” My smile didn’t falter until I turned my back, a beer, and a strawberry cake. That’s a bit…weird.

“Good morning, Kevin!” I greeted the front counter who takes the order, and smiled, aside from Sabrina, he’s the one I get along with as well.

“Two slices of strawberry and two bottles of beer,” I added.

“You look dazzling today, Sierra. Want to have some fun later?”

“That’s so sweet of you, but no thanks I have a lot on my plates after my duty,” I answered politely. I don’t want to be sounded rude, even though he’s been telling that me since day one.

“Aw. I’ve been rejected again.” He shot back playfully.

“No, you’re not. Sabrina was right there at the corner.”

After throwing the busy woman a short glance, he only gave me an innocent frown.

Kevin handed me the tray of orders, I didn’t wait for him to respond and quickly brought it to the two customers.

“So Sierra is your name…” One of them commented while I put the beer on the table.

“Yes Sir, please enjoy your meal.”

Turning my back, after bowing I was heading my way back to the kitchen when he speaks.

“You would probably look amazing in a black bikini.”

Where the hell those words came from? As much as possible, I don’t want to get in trouble, or I might lose this job. Technically, even customers aren’t right, they were the ones who win in the end, so I rather pretend not to hear anything.

“I’ve heard that girl, you should give at least a slight punch on his face,” Sabrina whispered, I shrugged and chuckled a bit.

“I love my job,” I whispered back.

“Too much skin wasn’t an issue...”

“But wearing a skirt and a crop top for a uniform was overwhelming as well, Sabrina.” I cut her off and gave her a wink before I flee out of her sight.

“When did I ever win in an argument with you?!” I heard her jokingly exclaim once more.

When I reached the kitchen,

“You should accept Kevin’s offer, obviously he’s hitting on you.” It was Harrold, our chef.

“Dating isn’t on my to-do list, Harrold.”

“But…”

Harrold wasn’t able to finish his sentence after the chaotic sound of broken plates ruined the vibrant mood of the place. I quickly hurried back to the dining area, when…

“Why don’t you have some meat this morning, and you call this place a restaurant? That’s ridiculous. ”

That voice was familiar.

“Miss, please calm down. We only serve breakfast until nine…”

“I don’t care. I want a beef steak, serve it now or I’ll call your manager!”

My eyes widened to hear the voice.

‘What are they doing here?’

‘Of all the place in the world.’

“Sierra!?”
