The Black Stygian packs were in complete serenity as midnight comes, only the sound of the trees crashing to each other as the wind pass by. Everyone was resting aside from Rosa who was looking at the moon brightly.
“I thought you’ll be leaving the pack in no time. What happened.” A gorgeous man walks towards her, his scarlet eyes reflected with the help of the light of the moon.
It wasn’t a question, but rather a sentence full of doubt, and only a confirmation and explanation from her will ease it.
“I changed my mind.” Rosa bit her lip before drinking the wine in her left hand, her trembling numbness didn’t escape from Alpha Priam’s peripheral.
“I wonder why. Was it because you don’t have the passport now, and can’t leave the country, as you gave it to her, to escape.”
Rosa was stunned but not surprised anymore, the Alpha was smart enough. But she still tried to cover her anxiousness with a fake smile.
“What are you talking about Alpha Priam? Of course, it was in my drawer, I just thought that I can’t leave the pack that became my home for quite a few years now.” She answered, trying not to stutter in her words before she shifted her gaze back at the colossal moon.
“I know you made her escape. You can fool the pack but not me.” His voice was in a matter-of-fact tone that made Rosa shiver in fear. Alpha Priam was the only person who save her from death, if he didn’t come at that time then she was probably a rouge now.
“Lying wasn’t your cup of tea Rosa, or should I call you…”
“Sierra?”
There a tear escaped from her eyes. It’s been years that no one calls her that name.
“Where is she?” The man firmly asked all of a sudden because there was no way the woman can lie anymore, she has been trapped and her words of lies cannot escape this time.
A long-silenced fills the air.
“Let her live her life Alpha, she wasn’t treated well in her pack.”
“She’s the daughter of the former Alpha and Luna of Silver Mist, Rosa. The twin sister of the current Luna, and you want me to believe that huh?” Alpha Priam asked her mockingly.
The woman heaved a sigh and look him in the eyes.
“Why do you think she came back when she could fully escape? Or no attacks came from Silver Mist after you abducted her and returned to her pack?” She asked firmly towards the man.
“Because she wasn’t expecting what awaits her in the pack. She’s one of the slaves, and her evil twin sister and Alpha Primo framed her up and betrayed her. They want her gone. Do you know why?” The woman asked as she competed with the way the man stares.
“That’s because there’s something special in her from all of us. Celestine saw it already, but you guys seem blind and deaf from it. Even Chandria doesn’t want to believe her.”
Another silence takes the space, “That’s none of my business…”
“It is your business Alpha Priam, it’s ours as well. Because it concerns the future, not just this pack but our race as well…” She cut him off and look away.
“I wasn’t regretting what I did Alpha. Punish me for doing so, but I won’t be ashamed of it. That’s the last thing I would do, to keep her safe, and you should…”
The woman wasn’t able to finish her sentence when she has been lifted by the man effortlessly in the air, his scarlet eyes were glimmering, it only means that he was enraged and once he got shifted, it will be the end of her.
“I will kill her. And everyone from that pack who killed my father, Rosa. And you made a mistake by betraying me.” He menacingly uttered, as his hand tightened to the woman's neck making her chase her breathing, as her face reddened with the lack of air.
“You should’ve left the pack and lived your as a human life letting your past be behind.”
A tear escaped from the woman as she slowly closed her eyes, letting the frontman take her life, accepting the fate of death in front of her.
But the man loosens up as soon as the warm liquid touch his skin.
“I’ll give you a chance.”
“Tell me where she is.”
He walks towards the corner of the veranda and pours wine into an empty glass.
“J-Just k-kill me, A-Alpha Priam.” The woman tried to speak despite her struggle in breathing.
“Why would I do that?” The man asked coldly.
“It’s either you tell me where Chandria is, or…” He paused for a moment and blankly stare at the moon.
“I’ll kill your daughter.”
The woman’s eyes slowly widened. ‘How did he know?’ She thought to herself.
“Do you think I don’t know that you have a daughter back in the city? The main reason why you are ousted from your pack, that’s because you don’t want her to have the same path that you took, and you fooled everyone that she died. When you had the chance to leave and be reunited with her, you chose to let someone escape in exchange for a happy family that might await you. Can you imagine how your daughter longs for her mother? And you’re trying to be one to someone who doesn’t even part of this pack.”
Rosa gritted her teeth, not because she was full of wrath but the fact that Alpha Priam was telling the truth.
“Leave my daughter alone.” She warned.
“You know that I’m the one in control right now, Rosa.”
“Choose. Was it Chandria, a woman from the rivals’ pack, or your daughter that you love so much? There’s not much logic in its Rosa, the right choice is pretty much visible.”
A moment of silence fills the open space, “This is a one-time opportunity, Rosa, if you chose Chandria, you’ll lose your life, and later on your daughter…”
“If I chose my daughter, we will lose our lives Alpha Priam.” The woman cut him off, this time as she slowly pull herself up from her prostrated position.
“You’re eaten by your rage that you aren’t sparing even the innocent ones’ life.” She added.
“Just f*cking kill Alpha Primo so you could have your revenge! But before you could do that…”
“You should be prepared for what awaits to this pack that once loved truly by your father, the rich soil of it will be drenched and diluted by blood.” She added. The man froze and looked her in the eyes, she has a point but that won’t ditch his hatred towards the rival pack’s Alpha.
He put the empty glass of wine on the table before turning his back, but before he left, he speaks…
“Twenty-four hours and I want to hear from you the exact location of that woman. And if not… you already knew what will happen next.”
“I don’t break my words… Not even once.” Alpha Priam left her dumbfounded, helpless, and doesn’t have any idea how she’ll fix this. Even though she has the answer, she can’t just be selfish and let this pack that she considered her family suffers in the near future.
The sun has risen, but Rosa was still awake from the conversation she and Alpha had last night. Until she was distracted by three knocks on her front door.
“Rosa are you awake?” It was Celestine’s voice.
“Come with me, let’s buy groceries and stocks for the next two weeks in the market.” The woman added.
But Rosa didn’t respond, she only pulled the blanket, hovering over her face, and pretended that she was asleep when she heard her door open.
“She’s still sleeping? That’s strange, she always wakes up early more than I do.” Celestine said to herself with a concern plastered on her face.
When Rosa heard the door being closed. She removed the blanket from her face and stare outside blankly. Rosa didn’t go out of her room and disregarded the food on the side of her table. She knew that Celestine was already worried down there, and she might barge inside her room any moment now. The entire day, she only watched how the darkness succumb to the sky, and that only means one thing. She has to make a huge decision now…
In the kitchen area, Celestine was walking back and forth, until the maid that she ordered to bring food to Rosa arrived.
“How’s Rosa? Did she eat now? Does she wants to talk to me?” She continuously asked.
The maid bowed her head before she answered, “she s awake, but she’s not touching her food, Celestine.”
It added to Celestine’s worry, “Thank you. You can continue your work now.” She said politely, the woman bowed her head once more before she leave.
“Should I visit her now?” Celestine asked herself.
“No need for that Celestine, I’m fine.” There Rosa walked down the stairs, with all smiles on her face but deep down she was stuck and on the edge of a very huge decision she has to make.
“Rosa!” Celestine run towards her and hugged her tightly.
“I was worried about you, I thought something happened.” She whispered.
Rosa taps her back and lets out a bitter smile this time, that the latter cannot see. “Don’t overreact Celestine, everything is fine. I just don’t feel like eating today, probably because I woke up late and I wasn’t able to come with you to a grocery store.” She joked around and fake a laugh.
“That was a relief then, come join me for a dinner.” Celestine dragged her to the table but she declines.
“Later Celestine, I have to talk to Alpha Priam. Do you know where he is?” The woman asked.
Celestine’s forehead creased, “Why? Was it too important?”
“Not really, but he needs my answer now.” She lied because deep within, her decision depends on the future that’s coming. Celestine knows exactly how important Chandria is, and if she tells the woman about the situation, they probably don’t have the same answer, after all, only Alpha Priam knew that she has a daughter.
“Oh, he’s probably on the rooftop, he often swims in the pool at this hour before he eats his dinner.” Celestine cluelessly replied.
Rosa smiled and nodded.
“Thank you, Celestine, I have to go.” She retaliated before the woman throw her questions.
As she turns her back, Celestine speaks “Let’s have breakfast together tomorrow, then Rosa!”
She made a short glance at her and smiled, “Sure.”
But that quickly falters as soon as she walks.
Celestine knew that she let Chandria escape, but she didn't get mad at her, instead, she thanked her for doing so. Celestine told her how Chandria will save them in the future and they made a promise to protect the woman at all cost, to protect not just their pack but also their race. But she seemed to be not able to keep that promise now.
‘I-I’m sorry, Celestine.’ She thought to herself and continued tracing the path to the rooftop.
She wanted to stop the time and ask herself a thousand times the same question. Is she making the right decision? Would it be right to be selfish at least once?
Until she finally took the last step of the stairs, and she saw the man swimming in the pool back and forth.
‘Maybe I should trust him?’
‘I believe he has some goodness in him like how his father rules.’
‘Atleast he could resort to a good plan beforehand.’
She convinced herself before she finally step up and showed up to the Alpha.
“Chandria…” She started, and the man just threw her a cold glance after he mounted from the pool, and took the towel on the corner to dry up.
“Chandria was in Chicago Illinois.”
A couple of seconds passed, but none of them speaks, Rosa wanted to take back her words, but she loves her daughter.
“Good decision, Rosa.” The man replied and turn his back.
“You may go back now.” He added, and let out a grin escape his lips.
When he heard the woman finally leave him alone, he gritted his teeth as rage slowly consume him.
“I won’t spare you this time, woman. Did you choose to escape? Then…”
“Face the consequence of your actions.”
