CHAPTER 39 : Unfamiliar Affection

1067 Words
“No, it was my mother’s real name, right? Should I call you Chandria then?” Britanny’s voice mixed with the sound of the rain drop on the ground, and this time I met her gaze. “It was your fault, I wasn’t able to see my mom alive, because of you.” She continued, and walk towards me. The black heels she is wearing made her more look dominating at this moment with me kneeling on the floor. “I wanted to slap you so hard. I wanted to strangle your hair...” “Then do it…” I cut her off. “If that would ease the pain, then do it,” I added, I understand her. She needs someone who’ll take all her pain, and if that would be me, then that would be better. I hope, at least. “No, I want you to bring all the guilt in those hearts of yours. I won’t lay you a finger, rather I’ll make you remember day by day that you are the reason why a daughter who yearns for her mother’s touch for years will never be able to experience a such dream.” Despite the water that was flowing on our faces, I saw how her tears ran down along with it. “I will never forgive you, and I will punish you with the same pain… or a much more wrenching one. You should be ready for it. I will never spare you even if you beg for your life.” She added as she turns her back and walks away. Leaving me with a much heavier heart as I watched her vanish from my sight, my eyes darted at the freshly dug soil that was turning into dirty mud now. If we could just replace the position, then I’d rather die than suffer in guilt like this. I don’t know how long I was kneeling there, my vision started to blur, and I felt a freezing coldness in me. I didn’t move, I should be punished harder than this. The rain didn’t stop, and I wanted to thank the God of the moon for letting me have this rain with me. Until my breath became heavier, my leg started to ache too, my wound seemed opened up, and I barely see Rosa’s grave in front of me. I fell onto the field, with the mud slowly covering half of my face, and the dark sky greeted me. Now I could see Rosa’s smiling face on me up there, she was cheering me up, trying to pull me from this fall when even I barely handles it anymore. Then my eyelids slowly pull each other together, begging me to close them. But no, I still wanted to see her. Yet no matter how I force my eyes to stay open, it automatically folds, as darkness slowly succumbs to me. *** “A-Alpha Priam, Chandria might collapse in there.” Celestine worriedly commented as her eyes begs the Alpha to do something. “Let her. She wanted it, Celestine.” The cold voice sent shivers down the woman. “P-Please Alpha…” The woman started to beg him in words but he only shut her off by looking intimidatingly into her eyes. “I won’t do a thing about this matter, Celestine. So please leave, I have such important matters to do, and you’re wasting my time.” The woman looked at him in disbelief. “If Alpha Philemon was still alive, I’m sure you’ll do the opposite. Because that’s the Priam I raised.” The woman gave him a meaningful look before she stormed out of his office. Alpha Priam touches the bridge of his nose, as he stares at the closed door that has been shut a couple of minutes ago. He leaned on his swivel chair and glanced at the picture frame in front of him. It was his father, Alpha Philemon, and him when he was three years old. The man was standing next to him, with a wide smile on his face, while the little Priam has a huge frown plastered on his face. He still remembers that day, when his father didn’t buy him the car toy he likes when they once visited the public market of humans. Then his gaze shifted through the transparent window of his office and landed on the woman kneeling in front of Rosa’s grave, despite that it was a bit distant from their pack, his eyes could still clearly see who it was. ‘Hard-headed.’ He commented to himself. After a few more battles within him, he slowly stands up from his chair and walks his way out of his office. He’s not sure why he is doing this, it’s probably because the woman’s situation strikes a familiar pain in his heart. Seeing her that way hurts him and brought him back to the day that he lost his beloved father. Alpha Priam found himself behind the woman who was now lying on the dirty ground, drenched in the rain, with her eyes swollen, and her injured leg bleeding again. ‘Silly, you’re trying to be tough. That you can manage without anyone’s help, but here you are ending up always looking pathetic in front of me.’ Alpha Priam thought to himself after scanning the pitiful Chandria. ‘I shouldn’t be doing this.’ He cursed himself as he started walking towards the woman and lifted her, carrying her in a bridal position. The rain stopped pouring, but his clothes were dirtied by the woman’s body. “Celestine, clean her up.” He ordered the woman whose eyes widened in shock at the unexpected sight in front of her. Alpha Priam walks upstairs straight to the woman’s room and put her on the mattress gently. But the moment his face got closer to the woman. He remembers how he throw her into the storage room with her condition, and the same event happened when he ended up carrying her in her arms after he discovered that she was sick, and alone in the darkness. A pang of guilt still lingers in him. His forehead creased because, despite the mud covering her face, he finds her still attractive… And his heart started to beat fast, which he’s never experienced before towards a woman. ‘N-no. It can’t be.’ Alpha Priam thought to himself.
