Chapter 9: Crystal Clear

624 Words
Early the next morning, Gu Beicheng visited Shen Lingyan's office as soon as he arrived. Shen Lingyan looked up at him. "Did you find anything?" Gu Beicheng tossed a file over to Shen Lingyan. "Just this record - she's just an ordinary young girl without much background." Shen Lingyan opened the file, appearing to be Lin Sa's university records. "She attended Finance University and was part of the rock music club. After graduating, she formed a band to do gigs. She's had a few boyfriends but nothing too notorious. Her family wasn't well-off either. Word is her mother ran off years ago, her father passed away recently, and she has a gambling-addicted brother. Her life can't have been easy," Gu Beicheng explained. Shen Lingyan remained silent, realizing her claim about needing money seemed truthful. "What does her brother do?" he asked. "Jobless, constantly idle. Any money he gets goes straight to gambling. I asked around - she's bailed him out of trouble numerous times." "I see." Gu Beicheng raised his brow. "So, what happened last night between you two? This woman really has an amazing body. One look and I wanted to..." Before he could finish, Gu Beicheng was met with a murderous glare from Shen Lingyan and immediately closed his mouth. "Nevermind Third Brother, I'll leave you to it," he said hurriedly before excusing himself. Lin Sa slept in until noon after returning home past midnight the previous night. The air conditioning had been blasting at twenty degrees celsius all night, leaving her hands and feet icy cold with a sore abdomen when she woke up. After using the bathroom, Lin Sa realized her period had started. She checked the date - June 17th...June 17th! The date made Lin Sa jump up immediately. She quickly readied herself and took a cab to Yuan's home, arriving in the afternoon around 3pm. Lin Sa purchased a fruit basket from the store downstairs before heading up. This residential building was quite old but located in the city center. With no elevator, Lin Sa had to climb up the five floors on foot. Her period left her feeling drained, and by the time she reached the top, she was drenched in sweat with a stabbing pain in her lower abdomen. After wiping her brow, Lin Sa knocked on the door. It soon opened to reveal a woman around her age who immediately scowled upon seeing her. "What are you doing here?" Her tone dripped with annoyance. Without a word, Lin Sa brushed past her into the home. Infuriated by the disrespect, Yuan Changle followed after her. "I asked why you're here? What business do you have with our family? How many times must I say it - stop deluding yourself!" "Alright Changle, Lin Sa means well," another female voice chimed in. Lin Sa turned to see Han Si? What was she doing here? Back at the cemetery, Lin Sa had already warned Han Si. Yet here she was again on Yuan's mother's birthday, acting like she owned the place. Tsk, it seemed her earlier slaps did nothing to jog Han Si's memory. "Her? Meaning well?" Yuan Changle scoffed derisively upon hearing Han Si's defense. "If not for her, would my brother be dead? Crocodile tears - she's the one constantly whoring around with men, yet has the gall to claim she was devoted to my brother. Disgusting." Lin Sa remained stone-faced, eyes fixated coldly on Yuan Changle. Her unsettling gaze, coupled with her expressionless pallor, made Yuan Changle's scalp prickle with unease. "What are you looking at? Did I say anything wrong?" Yuan Changle persisted stubbornly. "Wasn't my brother in that car accident because he was going to some stupid resort with you to celebrate your anniversary?"
