He had dreamt about her that night and as he woke groggy he rested back into his pillows and smiled to himself as he stared at the ceiling. Someone banged on the door to his dorm room. “Get up! We’re going to be late!” Daniel scrambled up, dressed quickly, grabbed his bag and opened his door. His friend Matt was waiting for him and they both ran the half a mile from the dorms to the front entrance of the college. As they exploded into the hall from the front doors he looked up and froze. Kysenia was standing talking to someone, she turned at the noise and smiled when she saw him. Daniel heard Matt curse with surprise next to him. “Daniel, good morning.” Kysenia said in a breathy tone, completely ignoring Matt standing beside him. He straightened up and smoothed his hair with his hand. “Ah, good morning…” “You seem to be running late?” “Just made it…” He grinned cockily causing Kysenia’s eyes to sparkle in response. He blushed faintly. “You are late…” Kysenia said with a smirk. “The final bell for first lectures rang five minutes ago…” “Oh…” Daniel looked at Matt who was staring stunned at the obviously flirty exchange. “Then you’re late too?” Kysenia chuckled a musical little laugh that Daniel could only think of as cute. “No, I’m early…I have no classes this morning…let me walk you to your class, that way they won’t penalise you.” “What? Oh, you don’t have to…” Matt jabbed him in the ribs. Daniel looked at him with a furious glare. “What the..?” “Just do it…” Matt whispered. They both looked back at Kysenia to see her smiling patiently at them, her minders however both looked like they wanted to rip Daniel in two. Kysenia turned. “Come on…what class do you have first?” “Professor Jenkins.” Kysenia walked off down the hall with her two minders in tow. Matt grabbed Daniel’s arm and followed along, giving Daniel all sorts of peculiar looks. . As they reached Professor Jenkins lecture room Kysenia stopped and let Daniel and Matt go in, then Kysenia stood in the door way. Daniel was blushing profusely as he saw that everyone was staring at him and Matt with open mouths. Professor Jenkins scowled and looked at them with a dark expression like he was just about to order them to get out, until he saw Kysenia standing in the doorway. His eyes went wide and he took another, closer, look at Daniel and Matt. “Excuse their lateness…my fault.” Kysenia said looking at Professor Jenkins. “Ah…right…quickly get to your seats.” Professor Jenkins said sounding a bit shell-shocked. “Goodbye Daniel.” Kysenia said with a smile and turned from the door and disappeared. “Am I invisible?” Matt muttered as he strolled arrogantly to his seat. Everyone stared at him and Daniel until they sat down and Daniel tried to hide his head in his arms and groaned. Matt was grinning from ear to ear clearly enjoying his quick rise to fame thanks to his witnessed connection to Kysenia which he knew would be hot gossip through campus before lunch. “You know if anyone is late to Prof Jenkins classes he bans them from entering, right?” Matt said leaning back with a clear attitude of triumph. “I know.” Daniel grumbled still keeping his head down. “You also know that we can now be late whenever we want…” “You don’t know that, don’t push it.” Daniel growled under his breath. Matt laughed. . Daniel searched for Kysenia again during break and once again found her standing under the same tree, but this time one of her minders was standing behind her, looking his way. As the minder’s gaze settled on him, he saw his mouth move. Kysenia turned her head and flicked her gaze up to him and smiled. Daniel looked at the ground embarrassed at being caught staring, then looked back up. She was still smiling at him and her minder lifted his hand and flicked his fingers indicating for Daniel to approach. Daniel looked around and saw several people watching intently. He clenched his jaw and walked over. “How was class?” Kysenia asked. “Fine.” Daniel said curtly. “Did I embarrass you? I apologise.” Kysenia had tilted her head to the side and was appraising him. “No, it’s okay…” Daniel answered. “You were looking for me?” “Ah…yeah…I suppose I was…” He blushed, then blushed even deeper when his mates came round the corner and once again snapped him talking to Kysenia. “Well I’m off to class now…” Kysenia said amused and delighted at his blushing and walked off a few steps. “Are you coming?” He turned and saw she had stopped a few yards away and was looking back at him, smiling. He noticed the whole quad full of people were also staring at him. His mates all looked at him like he was God. He grinned at them. “Got to go…I’ll see you guys at practice.” He yelled out. He ran up next to Kysenia, she turned with a satisfied smirk and continued to walk as he caught up and he fell into pace with her. “You’re quite tall…” She said amused. “What are you exactly?” “Ah…yeah…six four…my father was too, apparently…so I guess its genes.” “Hmm.” Kysenia grunted softly, she hadn’t missed the ‘apparently’ in his statement. “You could do with a haircut.” “You think so?” He laughed, running his hands through his hair. “I was trying to grow it out…” Kysenia stopped walking and regarded him with an intense look that made him hold his breath. She reached up and took his jaw in her hand. The touch felt sensual as her fingers curled around his chin, but he was surprised at how cold her hand was, she turned his face right and left as she scrutinised his facial features with an adorable little crinkle to her nose. “Yes, you would look quite handsome with long hair…okay then…grow it out.” She dropped her hand and continued walking. Daniel frowned and stared at Kysenia strangely. What the hell was that? “Keep moving.” A minder said beside him. Daniel startled and looked at the guy, his black eyes emotionless, his face stern. He stepped quickly into line with Kysenia. As they walked inside the stares he got as they walked down the hall together were intense. “God, is this what it’s like for you every day?” He wilted under the stares. “What?” Kysenia asked confused. “These stares…” Kysenia chuckled. “I suppose so…but these stares are for you.” “Huh? Walking with you, you mean? Is it that unusual?” “No one ever walks beside me.” “Never?” Daniel asked, realising her minders actually walked just behind her shoulders. “No.” Kysenia looked away, that sad look returning to her eyes as she stopped. “Here’s my next class…thank you for accompanying me.” “Okay…you’re quite formal, aren’t you?” Daniel was so confused. Does she like me or not? “Well…that’s just what I’m used to…” “Being a Family head?” Daniel asked cautiously. Kysenia raised an eyebrow. “So you have heard the stories?” “So what’s the truth?” Daniel felt his confidence returning the more time he spent with her and his tone came out quite demanding. Kysenia looked at him with an intense penetrating stare then twisted her mouth and gave him a c**k-eyed grin. “You’re not ready for the truth yet.” “What does that mean?” Daniel frowned and a harshness entered his rich low baritone voice. “Goodbye, Daniel…” Kysenia said as she turned to the door. Daniel clenched his jaw and suddenly lunged, wrapping his arms around her shoulders, pulling her into his chest and hugged her again. Kysenia gasped and then placed a hand gently on his forearms which encircled her collarbone. “Thank you.” She said softly. He dropped his arms and watched her open the door and walk into the classroom. One minder followed her in, pushing past Daniel with a dark scowl. The other minder stood at the door and folded his arms, settling an intimidating stare on him. “You can leave now.” He growled vehemently at Daniel, giving him shivers. Daniel smirked, he could see the jealousy in the guy’s eyes. He stepped backwards a few steps watching the guy scowl deeper at him, then turned and walked off down the hall feeling rather pleased with himself as he noticed people staring and talking about him like he was one of those celebrity students. ….. He was surprised when leaving campus to go to training that afternoon to find one of Kysenia’s minders standing waiting for him outside the lecture hall. “Master would like a word.” The guy said in an emotionless monotone. He walked off just assuming Daniel would follow. “I told you not to get involved.” Matt muttered beside him. “What’s the worst that can happen?” Daniel grinned and followed the minder. “What about practice?” “I’ll be there shortly…I’ll just find out what she wants.” ….. As he approached the Bentley, the driver opened the back door and indicated for him to get in. He bent double and peered inside. He smiled when Kysenia smiled at him, he leaned his arm on the roof. He noticed a man sitting next to her, wearing a uniform suit in the same style and featuring the same dragon and lotus insignia as the minders except this guy’s suit was white not black. “You wanted a word?” He asked her. “Get in, we’ll go for a drive.” Kysenia’s voice was curt, like it was an order. “Ah…I can’t…as much as I would like to, I have practice and non-attendance will lose me my scholarship.” “I see…” Kysenia frowned slightly, annoyed. “Look, I’m done in two hours…” “No, that’s okay…maybe…I might see you tomorrow…” “Ah, okay…” Daniel frowned when she said ‘might’. “Goodbye Daniel, today was nice, it has been a real pleasure meeting you.” “Ah, yeah it was…I mean, like wise…see ya…” The driver pushed the door, making him stand up and step back out of the way. He frowned, feeling a little confused as he caught the look of amusement on the drivers face. What the hell was this? Does she like me or not? Should I have gone with her…but I really can’t, can’t she understand that?  He stood and watched as the car drove around the horseshoe of the carpark a sinking feeling in his stomach. “Damn it.” He muttered and turned to head back to the footy field. …………. “Master?” The man in the white suit questioned Kysenia as the car drove away. “What’s your interest in that human?” Kysenia smirked and looked at her personnel assistant, then looked back out the window, through the tints at the lone figure watching them drive away. “Nothing that concerns you yet, Aiden.” Aiden appraised her carefully then decided to act. “Stop the car.” The driver pulled over just as they came back up parallel to Daniel on the other side of the large island in the middle of the parking lot. Daniel looked a little stunned as Aiden got out of the car and walked over to him, grabbed his hand and wrote on the back of it in pen, then grinned at him and went back to the car, closing the door. Daniel looked at his hand and looked back up at the car as it drove away feeling even more confused. It was a phone number…but who’s…Kysenia’s?? He would only find out by texting it. …….. “What did you do?” Kysenia asked Aiden as he got back in the car and told the driver to go. Aiden grinned. “I wrote your number on his hand.” Kysenia propped her elbow on the window frame of the door and rested her cheek on her fist. “Did you now…” She said amused as she looked at him intently. “Let’s see how brave he is.” “Hmm.” Kysenia snorted as she turned and looked out the window once again. “So do you want to go over tonight’s schedule?” Aiden asked her, changing the subject. Kysenia sighed and leaned back in her seat. “If we must.” “You’re not yourself, Master.” Aiden said a little amused by Kysenia’s distracted nonchalant attitude. “Perhaps I’m just tired…or thirsty.” “That might be it…you haven’t drunk anything for a few days.” Aiden scrutinised her a moment. Kysenia looked wistfully out the window again. “Perhaps that’s it then.” Aiden pressed his lips together and looked at her bewildered for a moment, smirked to himself, then lifted his tablet and started reciting her evening schedule. ..... As Daniel reached his team mates Matt leaned on his shoulder, wrapping an arm around his neck. “So, what did little miss mafia want?” Daniel frowned and looked at his hand. “I don’t know, she just asked me…no, she told me to get in the car.” “Wow, just like in the movies…” another guy called Tom exclaimed. “Lucky you didn’t…people that do are never seen again.” Matt said laughing. “Whatever…” Daniel said rolling his eyes. “She seemed disappointed I couldn’t though.” “Oh, looks like our Danny has himself a girlfriend…” Tom teased. “f**k, you reckon?” A third guy named Ryan said stunned. “Sure…why not? Our Danny boy is pretty…why shouldn’t he be able to snag the most eligible girl in college.” Matt said defending his friend. “Because the ice queen doesn’t even make friends…” Ryan said. “Excuse me…I am here.” Daniel said awkwardly as he quickly jotted the number on his hand down on a piece of paper and shoved it into his bag. “So, do you like her?” Tom asked. Daniel frowned. “Well, she’s stunning and I do want to get to know her, but…” “Oh no, there’s a ‘but’ already…” Ryan laughed. “Hey, look mate, don’t listen to the rumours…” Matt said. “Nah, it’s not that…she’s just weirdly in control…you know…?” Daniel tried to explain. “Nope, no idea what you’re talking about.” Matt said smiling like an i***t. “She never asks…like yesterday and just now at the car.” “Do you like dominant women, Dan?” Tom asked, wiggling his eyebrows. “f**k, stop teasing me over it…I got the distinct impression that because I didn’t get in the car, that was my one and only shot.” “Why do you say that?” Matt asked. “It was just the way she said ‘might see you tomorrow’ she said ‘it was a pleasure to meet you’ it sounded…dismissive.” “Geeze, she’s broken your heart already and you didn’t even get a kiss.” Tom teased again. “Ah…fuck up.” Daniel rolled his eyes, tying the laces up on his football boots. Matt grabbed his wrist and held his hand up. “What’s this then?” “I’m not sure…” Daniel said awkwardly. “The guy in the car with her wrote it.” They all descended into laughter teasing him about the assistant wanting a crack at him and walked off onto the field and started practicing. Daniel frowned, he felt disturbed by the whole thing, maybe he should forget about her… .
