Chapter 11: Game on

1. Savannah Hits Send Savannah stared at the screen, her finger hovering over the trackpad. The email was drafted. The attachments carefully selected. One click, and Lexi’s name would be dragged through the mud. No more whispers. No more guessing. Just destruction. Her lips curled into a satisfied smirk. “You should’ve stayed in your lane, Lexi.” And then— Click. It was done. Savannah leaned back, triumphant. The email, anonymously sent, had been blasted to every faculty member, club sponsor, and student mailing list. Attached: a twisted version of Lexi’s texts, conversations taken out of context, and a fabricated message accusing her of cheating on a midterm. Proof? Savannah had faked it all. But she knew: in this school, rumors traveled faster than the truth. And now? Lexi’s world would burn. --- 2. Lexi Gets the Fallout Lexi blinked at her phone as dozens of messages flooded in. “Check your email!” “What the hell, Lex?” “Girl, did you really cheat?” She opened the email link… and froze. Her heart plummeted. No. No. No. She hadn’t written these. The screenshots looked real, but… they weren’t hers. She stumbled into the library, phone clutched in her hand, vision blurring. Mia and Madison were already there, Ryan on speaker. Madison’s eyes were wide. “Lex… this is bad.” Ryan growled. “It’s fake. Anyone can see that.” “But not everyone will care,” Mia added quietly. “You know how this school is.” Lexi sank into the nearest seat, breath shaking. Savannah had finally struck. And this time? She hadn’t missed. --- 3. Jace Makes a Move The moment Jace saw Lexi’s pale face and trembling hands, he knew. He didn’t need to see the email. He knew Savannah’s brand of petty poison. And he was done. Jace didn’t wait. He stormed through the halls until he found her—Savannah, seated at her usual throne in the quad, sipping a smoothie like she hadn’t just tried to destroy someone. He didn’t bother lowering his voice. “You’re done.” Savannah blinked. “Excuse me?” “You heard me. You crossed a line.” Savannah leaned forward, voice dripping with fake sweetness. “She crossed it first.” “You’re sick,” Jace snapped. “And if you think anyone’s still on your side after this? You’re dumber than I thought.” He turned to leave. But not before adding, loud enough for everyone to hear: “Lexi’s mine. And I don’t care who has a problem with that.” -- 1. The School Reacts By fourth period, everyone had seen the email. Whispers followed Lexi down every hallway. “She cheated?” “I thought she was quiet…” “She’s just trying to trap Jace.” Lexi kept her head high, but inside? She was crumbling. She could barely focus, couldn’t think. Even teachers gave her odd looks. One even paused mid-lecture, clearly debating whether to call her out. Madison clenched her jaw. “They’re eating it up.” Mia slammed her locker. “We have to fight back. We can’t let this lie stick.” Ryan texted the one person who could help clear Lexi’s name fast. Because when it came to hacking, his cousin Jules was a genius. --- 2. Jules Digs Deep Jules barely needed an hour. She traced the IP address that sent the email. It was scrubbed, masked through a VPN. But then she found the image metadata Savannah forgot to strip. “Bingo,” Jules muttered. “School library desktop. Timestamped. And logged into a certain someone’s student account at the time.” She sent Ryan a screenshot and a message: > “Tell your girl to breathe. I just handed you Savannah’s smoking gun.” --- 3. Jace Pulls Rank The next morning, Jace was waiting at Principal Harding’s office—with Ryan, Mia, Madison, Lexi, and Jules at his side. Lexi felt like her heart was going to burst out of her chest. She hated conflict. But Jace? He lived for it when it meant protecting someone. “Let’s talk about the email,” he said, sliding the printed metadata across the desk. “And the real sender.” Harding scanned the page. “Where did this come from?” “Anonymous student,” Ryan said coolly. “But all verifiable.” Harding’s expression shifted. Lexi’s ears rang. Had they just… won? --- 4. Savannah Gets Called In The intercom crackled during fifth period. “Savannah Monroe, report to the principal’s office immediately.” The class went quiet. Savannah’s brows rose. “This better be about cheer tryouts,” she muttered, flipping her hair and strutting out like she owned the world. She didn’t know yet. But she was about to. --- 5. Lexi’s Moment of Clarity By lunch, the email had been officially retracted. Harding made an announcement himself, calling the screenshots “falsified” and stating disciplinary action was pending for the sender. The energy shifted. Some students apologized. Others awkwardly looked away. And a few? They were pissed they couldn’t enjoy the drama anymore. Lexi sat down with her friends, her tray untouched. “I’m tired,” she whispered. But for once, it wasn’t from defeat. It was relief. Madison smiled. “You survived it.” Ryan nodded. “And now they know not to mess with you.” Mia added, “Especially with Jace making it very clear where he stands.” --- 6. Jace and Lexi – No More Hiding After school, Jace found her by the bleachers. She turned at the sound of his steps, eyes still a little wary. He offered a quiet smile. “You good?” Lexi nodded slowly. “I think so. It doesn’t feel real yet.” Jace closed the distance, brushing her cheek with his thumb. “I meant what I said, you know,” he murmured. “About you being mine.” Lexi’s breath caught. “Is that okay?” he asked, voice low and sincere. She didn’t answer with words. Instead, she kissed him. Soft. Sure. Breathless. Because this time? She chose it. And the world could burn if it wanted to. ---
