A Love Rekindle, A Nightmare Unleashed

710 Words
Samuel stood in his father’s office, his hands clenched into fists. His breathing was uneven, his chest rising and falling with suppressed rage. “She was telling the truth, wasn’t she?” His voice was eerily calm, but the storm in his eyes was undeniable. His father, a man who had once seemed invincible, looked old and frail. The weight of the years and his own sins pressed down on him. He sighed, rubbing his temples. “Yes.” Samuel exhaled sharply, his entire body trembling. “She gave up everything,” he whispered. “For me.” “She was a distraction, Samuel,” his father said sternly. “I did what I had to do to protect our legacy. You would have thrown everything away for her.” Samuel let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. “No, you took everything from me. My happiness, my love, my sanity.” He looked at his father with pure disgust. “And I let you.” For five years, he had hated Isabel. For five years, he had let himself believe she was a heartless traitor. And all this time, she had been protecting him. Guilt clawed at his chest. He had to find her. But Isabel was gone. No trace of her anywhere. She had left the country, vanished without a word. Samuel hired the best private investigator money could buy. Find her. Whatever it takes. Days passed. Weeks. Then, finally, a lead. Samuel sat in his office, heart pounding as the investigator placed a file in front of him. “She’s in Paris.” Samuel snatched the file open, his hands trembling. Photos of Isabel. She looked different. Stronger, more distant. But then—his eyes landed on something that sent a shockwave through him. A pregnancy test. Positive. His world tilted. He was going to be a father. A broken laugh escaped him as he ran a hand through his hair. He felt like crying. After everything, after all the pain, Isabel was carrying his child. There was no hesitation. He booked the next flight to Paris. Finding Isabel was easier than he expected. She was sitting in a small café, her hands cradling a cup of coffee. She looked up—and froze. Tears welled in her eyes. “Samuel…” He walked up to her, voice trembling. “You’re pregnant.” Isabel swallowed, looking away. “How did you find me?” “Did you really think I wouldn’t?” he whispered. She shook her head, wiping a tear. “It doesn’t change anything, Samuel. I’m not coming back.” He kneeled beside her, taking her hand. “I was wrong. I was so wrong, Isabel. I should have fought for you. I should have trusted you.” He placed a trembling hand on her stomach. “Let me make this right.” For the first time in years, Isabel allowed herself to believe. That maybe—just maybe—they could have a fresh start. She agreed to return with him. For weeks, they were happy. For the first time in years, Samuel held her without anger. He kissed her without resentment. He touched her like she was his entire world. But happiness was fleeting. The Call That Changed Everything One evening, Samuel’s phone rang. His mother’s voice was weak, trembling. “Samuel… you have to come home. Your father is dying.” Samuel hesitated, his grip on the phone tightening. “And Samuel,” she continued, voice barely above a whisper. “There’s something you need to know.” A pause. A breath. “Your fiancée—Gabriella —is also pregnant. And it’s yours.” Silence. Samuel’s world shattered. He felt like the air had been knocked out of his lungs. “Samuel?” Isabel’s voice broke through the haze. “What’s wrong?” He turned to her, face pale, eyes haunted. But before he could answer, his phone rang again. It was her stepsister. And she was laughing. “Surprise, Samuel.” Her voice was sickeningly sweet. “We’re having twins.” Isabel staggered back as she saw the look on his face. Her worst nightmare had come true. The man she had sacrificed everything for had impregnated her stepsister.
