My father advises me to send a second letter to the Sheriff of Surrey admonishing him not to credit the letters of the Lady Mary. I do so but with a heavy heart. It begins to seem futile. He further strongly advises or, perhaps I should say commands, for it appears to me to be one, to write to Sir John St. Lowe and Sir Anthony Kingstone commissioning them to muster forces and repair to Buckinghamshire to repress rebellion. I do so but again with many misgivings.
"If people are rebelling Father," I say anxiously, "are we not wasting our time?"
"No daughter, no. These rebellions are always rife when change is afoot, it is essential to put them down quickly."
I continue to sign letters asking the various sheriffs to suppress Mary"s rebellions and remain loyal and I sign them Jane the Queen
