It is great pleasure and comfort to me to return once again to Bradgate and find myself, for the present time at least, to be at peace. I leave the house in the afternoon wearing my new white silk gown with blue satin kirtle and gold facings. It may be a little ostentatious, light and summery for Bradgate Park on a warm day but at least it makes me feel fresh and comfortable. I love to wander slowly among the rolling fields, past the stream and the bracken and gorse and the old, gnarled trees that have been here for hundreds of years and will still be here when we are all dead and gone. It is hilly too, in parts and I can climb up a ridge and stare out into the distance.
The sun is out now and red deer wander freely; this is not one of those days when they must run like the wind to avoid
