This morning I meet two members of the gentry, two local yeomen, three people who are long term workers in the tower. I greet them all as loyal subjects, taking time to talk to each in turn and ask them about their homes and families and their employment. Later I meet a bishop who was unable to attend my arrival at the tower due to his own late arrival in this country from overseas. I talk longer with him, tell him of my uncertainty of my position of queen, a fear of harm coming to people as a result of my succession but he tries to reassure me that it is God"s will and I am where I am because he desires it. I arrange for musicians to come in tonight and play as we have supper; I may as well try and enjoy myself at least in the long evenings here. At least I can just ask and the musicians
