Ava's POV I hunkered down behind a thorny shrub, my pulse racing, my thoughts whirling like a vicious storm. "Nobody knew we were out here, Steve," I gasped, my voice quavering, barely audible over the rustle of leaves. "Shh," he breathed, his arm darting out, gesturing into the shadows. "They're coming this way," he rumbled, his claws retracting with a quiet click, his eyes shining like a predator's, locked on something stirring in the distance.
