Ava’s POV
I watched his expression intently as he held my gaze. For a moment, he stood motionless, then without a word, he looked away.
“Steve?” I said, trying to make sense of his reaction. It wasn’t at all what I’d anticipated.
“Let’s head out, Ava,” he said flatly, turning to me with a strained grin. “You have no idea how much this secret has wrecked Liam, do you?”
I stared at him, stunned. “But Steve…”
“We’ll talk about it later, Ava,” he cut in sharply. “Let’s go now, please. Time’s not on our side.”
He climbed out of the car without another comment. I followed, my head swirling with questions. What did he mean by the harm to Liam? His earlier response had caught me off guard, but his final words left me even more unsettled.
