Ava's POV Worry etched deep lines across my face as Steve turned away from me, his gaze lost in the shadows of his cell. I reached through the cold iron bars, my fingers brushing his cheek lightly, like I could draw him back from whatever void he'd slipped into. "What's wrong, Steve?" I whispered, my voice barely a breath. The second the words left my lips, I kicked myself. Dumb question.
