"Haul her back in!" Liam's roar echoed from the council chamber, rattling the stones like a damn tremor. The sentries didn't waste a second, their fingers digging into my shoulders, whipping me around so quickly I almost lost my footing. My face still throbbed from Lucy's smack, and my brain was reeling, scrambling to wrap around that filthy lie about Steve and me.
We burst back into the space, the earlier uproar now hushed into a creepy calm. Steve knelt before Liam, his arms roped tight, his expression blank but his gaze shouting betrayal. My gut twisted at the view—Steve didn't deserve this crap.
