He knew it was Gabriel because Alice always went up and down stairs like she had to stamp them into submission and f**k it if the noise it made bothered anyone. Stairs were Alice’s way of getting even with the world.
Gabriel didn’t walk like that. He just got from point A to point B like everybody else. He was normal and decent and Jake should never have fallen in love with him. Or expected him just to leave when Jake slunk down the stairs.
