“Just one. We’re getting off at Union.” Jake hoped his relief wasn’t too obvious. He could manage waiting another few minutes to get into the open air. So far the nearly constant noise of the street traffic wasn’t a problem. If that changed, Jake had no idea how he would deal with it. But he was fairly sure Gabriel would get tired of him pretty damn fast if he couldn’t even leave his apartment. “Here we are,” Gabriel said as the subway finally stopped at Union. They left the train and went up to street level. Jake took the stairs so he wouldn’t have to wait on the escalator. He was worried Gabriel would notice, but Gabriel just trotted up behind him and followed him easily out into the sunlight. Jake relaxed a little just feeling the warm air of the day on his skin.
