Ethan's eyes widened in shock as Alex's words hung in the air. "What do you mean, Sophia's not what she seems?" he asked, his voice low and even.
Alex leaned forward, his eyes locked on Ethan's. "Sophia's married, Ethan," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "Or at least, she's supposed to be. Her husband's a friend of mine, and let's just say that Sophia's not exactly the faithful type."
Ethan felt like he'd been punched in the gut. Sophia, married? He couldn't believe it. He thought back to their conversation the night before, trying to remember if she'd said anything about being married. But she hadn't, had she?
He looked at Alex, trying to read his expression. Was his brother telling the truth, or was this some kind of twisted game?
"Why are you telling me this, Alex?" Ethan asked, his voice cautious.
Alex shrugged, a sly smile spreading across his face. "I'm just looking out for you, bro," he said. "I don't want you to get hurt."
Ethan raised an eyebrow, skeptical. Alex had never been the protective type, so why was he suddenly so concerned about Ethan's well-being?
But before Ethan could ask any more questions, Alex stood up, his expression serious. "Just be careful, Ethan," he said. "Sophia's not what she seems."
As Alex walked out of the room, Ethan was left feeling confused and unsure. Was Sophia really married? And if so, why had she lied to him?
He thought back to their conversation, trying to remember every detail. Sophia had seemed so sincere, so genuine. But had it all been an act?
Ethan didn't know what to believe, or who to trust. All he knew was that he needed to get to the bottom of things, to find out the truth about Sophia and her mysterious past.
With a newfound sense of determination, Ethan stood up, his eyes fixed on the door. He was going to find out the truth, no matter what it took.
As he walked out of the room, Ethan couldn't shake off the feeling that he was in for a wild ride. Little did he know, the truth about Sophia was only the beginning, and the secrets that lay ahead would change everything forever.
Ethan's mind was racing as he walked out of the meeting room. He couldn't believe what Alex had just told him. Sophia, married? It didn't seem possible. He thought back to their conversation the night before, trying to remember every detail. Sophia had seemed so sincere, so genuine. But had it all been an act?
As he walked back to his office, Ethan couldn't shake off the feeling that he had been deceived. He felt like he had been punched in the gut, like all the air had been sucked out of him.
He sat down at his desk, trying to process everything that had just happened. He didn't know what to believe, or who to trust. All he knew was that he needed to get to the bottom of things, to find out the truth about Sophia and her mysterious past.
Ethan picked up his phone and dialed Sophia's number. He needed to talk to her, to find out if what Alex had said was true.
As the phone rang, Ethan's heart was racing. He didn't know what to expect, or what Sophia would say. But he knew that he had to know the truth.
Finally, Sophia answered. "Hello?" she said, her voice bright and cheerful.
Ethan took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. "Sophia, it's Ethan," he said. "We need to talk."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Ethan wondered if Sophia had hung up on him.
But then, she spoke up. "What's going on, Ethan?" she asked, her voice cautious.
Ethan took another deep breath, trying to choose his words carefully. "I just had a meeting with my brother," he said. "And he told me something that I need to ask you about."
There was another pause, and Ethan could sense Sophia's tension.
"What is it?" she asked finally, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan hesitated, unsure of how to phrase his question. But then, he just came out and asked it. "Sophia, are you married?"
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Ethan could sense Sophia's hesitation.
"I...I don't know what you're talking about," Sophia stammered.
Ethan's eyes narrowed. "Don't lie to me, Sophia," he said, his voice firm. "My brother told me that you're married. Is it true?"
There was another pause, and then Sophia spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yes, it's true," she said. "I'm married. But it's complicated, Ethan. My marriage is...it's not what you think."
Ethan felt a surge of anger and betrayal. "What do you mean it's complicated?" he demanded. "You're either married or you're not. Which is it?"
Sophia sighed, and Ethan could sense her frustration. "I'm married, okay?" she said. "But I'm also separated. My husband and I are getting a divorce. It's just...it's not finalized yet."
Ethan's anger began to dissipate, replaced by a sense of confusion and uncertainty. He didn't know what to believe, or who to trust.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked, his voice softer now.
Sophia hesitated, and Ethan could sense her regret. "I'm sorry, Ethan," she said. "I should have told you. But I was scared. I didn't know how you would react."
Ethan took a deep breath, trying to process everything that Sophia had just told him. He didn't know what to do, or how to feel.
"I need some time to think," he said finally. "Can we talk about this later?"
Sophia hesitated, and then nodded. "Okay, Ethan. I understand. But please...please don't judge me. I'm not a bad person."
Ethan sighed, feeling a sense of uncertainty. "I'll try not to," he said. "But I need some time to think."
As they hung up the phone, Ethan couldn't help but wonder what other secrets Sophia was hiding. And he couldn't help but wonder if he was ready to take on the complications that came with loving a married woman.
Ethan sat at his desk, staring blankly at the wall as he tried to process everything that Sophia had just told him. He felt like he had been punched in the gut, like all the air had been sucked out of him.
He couldn't believe that Sophia was married. He had thought that she was single, that she was available. But now, he realized that he had been blind, that he had ignored all the signs.
Ethan's mind was racing as he tried to think about what to do next. He didn't know if he could trust Sophia, if he could believe her. He didn't know if he wanted to be involved with a married woman.
As he sat there, Ethan's phone buzzed with an incoming text. He looked down and saw that it was from Sophia.
"Hey, I'm sorry again for not telling you the truth," the text read. "I know this is a lot to take in, but I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me."
Ethan sighed as he read the text. He didn't know what to say, or how to respond. He didn't know if he could forgive Sophia, or if he even wanted to.
As he sat there, trying to decide what to do, Ethan's mind kept wandering back to Sophia. He couldn't help but think about the way she made him feel, about the way she smiled at him.
Despite everything, Ethan couldn't help but feel drawn to Sophia. He couldn't help but want to be with her, to hold her in his arms.
But he knew that he couldn't ignore the fact that she was married. He knew that he had to think about what was best for him, about what he wanted.
As the hours passed, Ethan sat at his desk, trying to make sense of everything. He didn't know what the future held, or what he would decide.
But he knew one thing for sure: he couldn't ignore the way he felt about Sophia. He couldn't ignore the connection they shared.
And as he sat there, lost in thought, Ethan knew that he would have to make a choice. He would have to decide whether to follow his heart, or to follow his head.
The question was, which one would he choose?
