Chapter 9

Wednesday came soon and the Basketball math between Accounting and, guess who they are having a match against, Engineering. I only found out recently because even Philip invited me to watch the said game. Wednesday morning came and I eagerly got ready today because those who want to watch the game are excused in class. I took this opportunity to get out of class early and watch Max play. I went to the University Linear Park to wait for Philip as he suggested to watch the game together. I plugged my earphones in and listened to some songs while waiting for the said friend. I took my time to scroll through twitter as I know that Philip will be late, as usual. I scrolled through twitter when a tweet from Max caught my eye @ca1max: my cheerleader is going to watch me today, got to give it my all. I laughed at his childlike behavior. Having the excitement just because someone is going to watch him play. Who might that cheerleader be? I want to think it was me but I don't want to be presumptuous. I don't want to assume unless something is stated. I guess I have to wait for his move. I don't use my twitter to tweet that much but I don't know what got into me to reply to his tweet. @axelmndz: lucky you, you got a cheerleader! I laughed at my own reply. A minute later he replied back. @car1max: hahaha you better be there later. I was about to put my phone into my pocket when someone replied to his tweet. And by that someone, I meant Philip. @philtheman: can't get enough of each other? I let out an airy sigh. That man doesn't really know his limits that much, huh? I texted him, asking him where he is. He's already late and he got the nerve to reply to our thread. "Oi," someone called from behind me. I looked at that person, Philip. I smacked his head for being late. "Sorry, sorry, now let's go and watch your boyfriend's match." He grabbed my arm, making me stand up. "Boyfriend, my ass, we're not dating!" I don't know why but I exclaimed the last part, to not sound disappointed. Philip snickered at my comment but said nothing. I guess by his last advice, I may need to wait until I'm really sure of what I'm feeling. And it feels like Max is pursuing someone else by his tweets. The moment we reached the Uni court, we sat at the bleachers and Philip looked like he was waiting someone. "Max told me that his friends would also be watching," Philip commented. I didn't know that he and Max are talking. "He asked if they could join us, remember Dani and Tim." Suddenly, a familiar blue-haired girl and a boy came towards us. They waved and sat beside me and Philip. Dani sat beside me while Tim sat beside his friend. I smiled at them. "Which team are you even cheering?" Dani teased, wiggling her brows. The thing is, as I said earlier, the match will be between the Accounting Department, Max's Department, and the Engineering Department, which is the Department I'm in. I let out a playful sigh and laughed, "I don't even know, I don't like sports that much but Max asked me to watch, so there's that," I said, confessing the reason why I'm here. "Then cheer for my friend," she said, smiling. I nodded as we heard a beep, signaling that the game is about to start. I don't really know how to tell you what is happening because I really don't know much about this sport. But sometimes Max would steal glances at my way and smile. At the beginning of the game, he waved as his groupmates teased him. My cheeks heated up when that happened. I waved back at him as he went to play. I would watch as he plays, he seems to be really enjoying the game as I shouted some kind of cheers. My friends would sometimes laugh as I told them to come cheering with me. I smiled at the scene in front of me. Max enjoying the game, it's as if this is another version of Max that I have to know. "So, what did your friend say?" Philip suddenly asked. I looked at him confused at his sudden question. "What friend?" He laughed and ruffled my hair. I glared at his actions, as I took the time to fix my hair. "You know, the friend with the love problems." I felt myself blush at his words as I remember asking for his advice. "Oh," was all I could say. "About that," I started, thinking of an answer. "He said he would wait until he's sure about what he's feeling." "Hmm, until when?" He continued, suddenly becoming serious. I looked at him weirdly. What has gotten into this man? "I don't really know," I said, not wanting to push the topic and further. "Why are you so interested in my friend's love life, anyway?" "I'm not," he defended himself, raising his hands in the air. "I was just asking." We continued watching the game as the game was tying between two teams. I looked at Max and he was drinking water from the benches. Sweat dripping from his arm. I tried to look away but why was I entranced at his figure right now. He doesn't have the perfect build that most men want, but his build was okay for someone of his height. Not too bulky nor skinny. I felt my skin heat up as he caught me looking at him. I tried to distract myself by waving at him. I smiled as he waved back. I gave him two thumbs up, signaling that he was doing great at his game. He chuckled from across the bleachers and returned to his game. The game ended with the Accounting Department as the victors. I smiled widely. Max did good today. Even if my Department lost, at least my friend won his match. Max went towards us as we said our congratulations. He looked at me and suddenly it was a staring contest. "Oi, we'll leave you two already," Philip suddenly said, looking at the both of us. "We have to go somewhere after this," he continued, taking Dani and Tim with him. "Let's listen to some music," Max said after the trio left. He sat beside me and put his earphones in my ear. "I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you." The music started, I looked at him confused at why this music is playing. He mouthed the word shuffle and I nodded at him and focused at the music. "I don't need you to search for the proof that I should. You don't have to convince me." I hummed to the relaxing music, taking me along to a journey. "What if it's us, and only us?" I prefer this Max, the private Max. Acting as if it's just the two of us, but it's true. We're the only people left in the Court. I smiled at him as he took back his earphones when the music finished playing. "Do you know how to play?" He said, probably about basketball. "Actually no," I confessed, suddenly feeling shy of my answer. Damn it, why am I being like this. "Come, I'll teach you," he said, grabbing my hand and leading me to the court. I took the ball and on my first attempt to throw it to the ring was a fail. He laughed at my failure as I glared at him. "Do it this way," he said, walking towards me. Suddenly I felt him behind me, his hands reaching to my arms. God, why are you doing this to me. I felt our bodies closed the space between us. He held the back of my hand, teaching me how to play. "Look at the ring," he said, snapping me away from my thoughts. I felt myself blush and I just need to get away from this man. I threw the ball and it was still a failed attempt. I looked disappointed at myself, but I shrugged it off before looking at Max. "I'm more of an academic than a sport type of person," I admitted, not wanting to look more a failure in front of him. "Hey," he started, cupping my face with both of his hands. "You did great, okay?" I felt my ears heat up as he was holding my face with both his hands. "Let's go buy something to drink," I said, removing my face from his grip. "My treat, since you won." "Wow," he said grabbing his bag from the benches. "I should win more often." We arrived at the University Cafeteria and bought drinks for each other. I looked at him as he was happily sipping his drink. "You sure do like it," I commented as I took a sit. "Well, you bought it for me," he commented. Smooth. "Whatever you say," I said. I heard him chuckle. He looked at me nervously, I was wondering what he got to say so I raised my brow as if signaling him to go on. "There's this thing since Christmas break is next week," he started, suddenly taking an interest at his hands. "Do you want to come and party at Dani's house, you can bring Philip?" I looked at him and nodded. He smiled at me brightly and I laughed at his childlike behavior. This man is going to be the death of me. Oh well, at least I have something to look forward to. ~*~
