CHAPTER 13— The Kiss That Changes Everything🫣

516 Words
The hallway was too quiet. Not silent — charged. Like the air was waiting for something to finally break. For two people who’d been orbiting each other like fire and oxygen to finally collide. Kaela could feel her own heartbeat where Vionn stood — a few inches away, but somehow everywhere. She whispered, “Vionn… what does this mean for us?” Vionn’s breath caught. Not rough. Not hungry. Just… aching. “It means I can’t pretend anymore,” he murmured. “It means I’m done holding myself back from you.” Her pulse tripped. He stepped closer — slow, like giving her a thousand chances to run. She didn’t move. She didn’t blink. Not when his hand lifted. Not when his fingertips brushed her jaw, light as breath. Not when he whispered her name like a confession he’d been dying to make. “Kaela…” Her knees almost gave out. He leaned in, barely, his forehead almost touching hers. “You don’t have to want me,” he said softly. “But I can’t keep acting like I don’t—” She didn’t let him finish. Her hand grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled. Just an inch. Just enough to tell him. I’m not running anymore. Vionn froze. Absolutely still. Like her touch shut down his entire world. His voice dropped to a whisper so quiet it shook. “Kaela… if I kiss you now, I won’t stop at just a kiss.” Her breath shivered. “Then don’t stop.” That was it. The last thread of control he’d been clinging to snapped — quietly, beautifully. He cupped her face with both hands, his thumbs brushing her cheekbones with a tenderness that almost hurt. Their breaths tangled. Their lips hovered. And when he finally kissed her— it wasn’t hungry. It was slow, devastatingly slow. A question and an answer at the same time. A “don’t leave” and a “I’m here” threaded into one breath. Kaela gasped softly, fingers curling into his shirt, pulling him closer without realizing. Vionn deepened it, just a little— a slow slide of lips, warm and reverent and unbearably honest. His hand moved to the back of her neck, guiding her gently, as if she were something precious he’d been terrified to break. And god, the way he kissed her— It wasn’t a kiss. It was surrender. When they finally pulled apart, barely an inch between them, both of them trembling— Vionn whispered, “I’ve wanted this since the moment you walked into Blackwood.” Kaela’s voice cracked. “And you waited this long?” His lips brushed her cheek, teasing, dizzying. “Because I needed it to be real,” he whispered. “And tonight… it finally is.” She kissed him again — quick, breathless, smiling against his lips. And he smiled too. Not the controlled, composed Vionn Blackwood smile. A real one. Soft. Young. Almost boyish. Almost dangerous. Because once he had his first taste of her — there was no universe where he’d let her go.
