CHAPTER 37 — The First Clash: Vionn vs Adrian

926 Words
The forest had never seemed darker. Every shadow felt alive, whispering secrets, mocking him. Vionn’s boots crushed leaves beneath him as he ran, Lucas at his side, scanning for any sign of Kaela. His ice-blue eyes, cold and sharp, burned with a fury no one had ever seen before. This wasn’t just desperation—this was a storm contained within a man who had always prided himself on control. “She’s here, Lucas,” Vionn growled, his voice low, dangerous. “I can feel it.” Lucas didn’t argue. He knew better than to try. His brother’s focus was a predator’s, unrelenting, unstoppable. Meanwhile, inside the decrepit hideout that smelled of damp wood and human sweat, Kaela struggled against her restraints. Her wrists ached, and her back pressed painfully against the rough bedframe. Every man in the room was watching, circling her like wolves. Adrian stood nearby, eyes dark with obsession, a sick smile curling on his lips. “You’re finally mine,” Adrian whispered, leaning in closer. “Just like Adriana… just like she was.” Kaela’s heart pounded—not with desire, but with terror. She pushed herself against the ropes, gasping. “I’ll never be hers. I’ll never be yours!” Adrian chuckled darkly. “Oh, my sweet Kaela… you already are. But tonight… tonight, you’ll understand.” Vionn burst through the door moments later, Lucas behind him. The hideout seemed to shrink beneath the weight of his presence. The men froze. Fear rippled through the room; they had heard the stories of the Blackwood wrath, but seeing it… feeling it… was another thing entirely. “Step away from her,” Vionn’s voice cut like steel. Adrian’s grin widened. “Ah… the mighty Vionn comes at last. You’re just in time to watch her obey.” Vionn’s eyes locked on Kaela, and he saw the faint sheen of sweat on her skin, the subtle paleness that spoke of more than just fear. His heart skipped. Something was off. Adrian moved closer to Kaela, trying to assert control, unaware of the storm about to break. Before Vionn could reach them, a sickening realization hit him. Something in Kaela’s expression—the slight weakness in her limbs, the faint tremor of her lips—made his stomach twist. She had been… poisoned. The air seemed to still. Adrian’s eyes flickered, just slightly, revealing a secret he thought hidden. Vionn’s mind raced. “He’s using her… for protection. She’s his shield.” Every muscle in Vionn’s body tensed. This wasn’t just about saving her anymore. This was personal. Deeply, irrevocably personal. Vionn lunged forward. Adrian’s men moved to block him. Vionn’s fist collided with the nearest one, sending him sprawling across the floor. Lucas joined, and the two brothers became a whirlwind of destruction, cutting a path toward Kaela. Adrian stepped back, his eyes narrowing. “You don’t understand, Vionn! She’s the key! She’s everything! You’ll never take her!” Vionn ignored him, reaching Kaela and kneeling beside the bed. His hands tore at the ropes, his mind screaming for her to be free. Kaela flinched as he freed her, her body trembling—not just from fear but from the intensity radiating off him. “Kaela…” he whispered, brushing her hair from her face. His ice-blue eyes burned into hers. “I’m taking you out of here. Nobody touches you. Nobody!” Adrian recovered, furious, and charged, but Vionn was ready. Every move he made was precise, calculated, lethal. He wasn’t holding back. Not now. Not ever. As Vionn fought, Adrian’s voice echoed through the room: “You think this ends here? You think you can save her? She’s mine… always mine!” Vionn didn’t answer. He simply continued, driven by a singular goal: get Kaela out alive. Finally, with one brutal sweep, Vionn sent Adrian crashing into a wall. The man groaned, stunned but not defeated. But Vionn didn’t hesitate. He scooped Kaela into his arms like she weighed nothing at all, and with Lucas clearing the path, they sprinted toward the forest. Kaela clung to him, heart hammering, every breath mingling with his. “Vionn… what did he do to me?” she whispered, fear and confusion warring in her voice. He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he tightened his hold, burying his face in her hair, and whispered fiercely: “I’ll fix this. I’ll kill him if I have to. Nobody… nobody touches you again.” But inside, he knew it wasn’t just the physical threat that haunted him. The poison in her system—Adrian’s insidious plan—loomed over them like a shadow he couldn’t cut. And for the first time, Vionn allowed the raw truth to pierce him: he could lose her. Not to the world. Not to anyone. But to death, to treachery, to the same fate that had stolen Adriana from him. And that thought… that thought ignited something darker, more terrifying than anything he had felt before. The forest swallowed them as they ran, the night alive with danger, with possibility, with a fragile hope that he would get to her in time. But Adrian wasn’t done. He had planted a seed, and its roots were already spreading. Vionn held Kaela tighter, his jaw set, his heart pounding like war drums. “I swear… I swear I will not let you go. Not now. Not ever.” And in that moment, Kaela realized the depth of his obsession, the magnitude of his love, and the terrifying truth: Vionn Alexander Blackwood would cross hell itself for her.
