CHAPTER 32 — The Obsession of Adrian Vale

636 Words
Kaela’s wrists burned against the ropes, her heartbeat thundering in her ears. The room was cold. Cruelly cold. A metallic scent lingered in the air — mixed with unfamiliar cologne. Adrian stepped into the low light, his footsteps too calm for a man who had hunted her like prey. His smile was wrong. Too gentle for the madness in his eyes. “You look terrified,” he murmured — almost tender. “As you should be.” Kaela lifted her chin, though her body trembled. “I won’t help you. I’ll never let you use me like you used Adriana.” His expression darkened — shadow snapping into rage. “Adriana…” He said her name like a curse. “She failed me.” “No,” Kaela shot back. “You destroyed her.” Adrian leaned close — fingers lifting her chin. His voice dropped to a venomous whisper. “You think Vionn loves you? You’re a replacement. A tool. You exist because I broke the first one.” Her breath hitched — fury and fear twisting together. “You don’t know anything about Vionn,” she hissed. He laughed softly. “Of course I do. I made him the monster he is.” Kaela’s stomach twisted. “You’re lying.” “Am I?” He moved closer, his nose nearly touching hers. “Who do you think killed Adriana?” Kaela froze. Her pulse cracked wide open. He leaned back just enough for her to see the madness gleam. “He couldn’t protect her… and he won’t protect you either.” Kaela’s voice trembled, but she forced every word: “He’s coming for me.” Adrian’s jaw tightened — the first reveal of fear. “…I know.” He grabbed her face — not violently, but with a possessive hunger that made her skin crawl. “That’s why I have to break him first.” Kaela glared through tears she refused to shed. “You’ll never break Vionn. He would tear down the world to reach me.” Adrian smirked. “That’s exactly what I want.” He stood and brushed his fingers over her arm — cold, claiming, unwanted. “You’re the final move, Kaela Blackwood. When he arrives… he’ll find you broken.” Her breath spiked — panic clawing at her throat. Adrian turned away, speaking to his guards at the door: “Prepare for the King’s descent into hell.” The lock snapped shut behind him. Kaela was alone — bound, terrified… and trembling not just with fear— —but with the fierce, burning hope that Vionn was already coming. Because somewhere out there— --- Meanwhile… Vionn’s fists were bruised. His voice hoarse from screaming her name into the night. Branches snapped under his boots as he tore through the forest, eyes wild with rage and fear devouring him whole. Kaela. Kaela. Kaela. Every second she was away… he was losing himself. Lucas ran behind him, breath uneven. “Vionn—slow down— we’ll find her—” Vionn spun, grabbing his brother’s jacket in a desperate grip. “If we don’t reach her in time—” His voice broke. “She’s all I have left, Lucas.” Lucas’s expression softened — shock flickering in his eyes. Vionn wasn’t cold now. He wasn’t composed. He was a man being ripped apart. “We’ll find her,” Lucas promised. “I won’t let you lose her too.” Vionn nodded — barely. Then he stared into the darkness ahead — —and ran faster. --- Back in the hideout Kaela pulled fiercely at the ropes — skin stinging, muscles shaking. “I am not Adriana,” she whispered to herself. “I will survive this.” Wind howled outside. A storm was coming. And with it— Vionn.
