NARA POV
I was enraged.
I had swallowed enough insults, accusations and humiliation. Whatever patience I had left had disappeared into thin air. This was the last straw.
I barged into Ellie's room without knocking.
She was standing in front of the mirror, twirling in a new dress. A dress she bought from going shopping with my mom.
My Mother.
The thought made something inside me twist painfully.
Ellie caught my reflection in the mirror and turned.
Before she could say a word, I grabbed her by the hand.
Pa!!
My palm connected with her cheek. The sound seemed to hang in the room.
I was breathing hard but the anger in me hadn't disappeared. If anything, seeing the shock on her face made me remember what she did.
"Have you lost your mind?"
Ellie raised her hand intending to hit me back, but I caught her by the wrist
"Lost my mind?... " I laughed bitterly. " Yes, maybe I have. I've gone completely insane".
I released her hand only to hit her again. Her face turned with the force and it turned bright red.
"Why?" I demanded, my voice shaking. "What did I do to deserve this?".
"You remember". She stared at me. There wasn't any surprise on her face.
My chest tightened. " Yes, I remembered," I said quietly.
"Why would you do that to me?, why?" I broke down in tears.
"Why?.. " She scoffed, rubbing her cheeks.
Then she stepped closer, jabbing at my chest.
"You came here after all these years, trying to take everything from me and you think I would stand by and let that happen? No way".
Her words stunned me. “ I tried taking everything from you?”
“Yes!!”
I stared at her, struggling to understand how she could possibly think that.
“That was your reason,” I whispered. “You ruined my life because you thought I was trying to take your place?”.
“You were taking it!”
“It belonged to me in the first place”. The words came out so loudly I
was startled.
For a moment, neither of us spoke. My eyes burned.
“You've been with them all these years”. I said, my voice cracking, a tear slipped down my face. “You had everything. Their love. Their attention. The memories. Everything.”
You know what?, you're coming with me and you're telling them the truth”.
I tried dragging her, forcing her to walk.
“ What do you think you're doing?”.
“I won't have you destroy my life this way,so you're going to them the truth”
“And you think they will believe you”. She was smiling.
I paused. “ I don't care”. She was right.
But right now only she could tell them what happened that night.
She struggled.”No I won-” She paused before suddenly breaking down in tears.
“Sister please, I'm sorry. Don't hit me again”. She pleaded, trying to draw my hands.
Seeing her this way,my only guess was that my parents were close.
“Nara!”. My father's voice thundered across the room.
I scoffed, tightening my grip around Ellie's wrist as she struggled with me.
“What do you think you're doing?”.
“Ellie has something to say”.
Her eyes widened. “Sister, please. I'm sorry”. Tears streaming down her face, dropping on the floor.
I stared at Ellie, disgusted.
Where was the Ellie who had been exchanging words with me a few minutes ago? The one who looked at me with a smug smile daring me to do my worst.
Now she was trembling in front of everyone.
“Nara!”. My father's voice dropped down dangerously low. “Let her go”.
I didn't.
“Nara, let her go. She's in pain. Please”. My mother pleaded, her voice trembling.
“She's in pain?”. I laughed but it came out broken. “What about me?”.
Everyone went silent.
I looked at my parents face, desperately searching for even a little understanding.
“I'm in pain too!” I cried. “why don't you believe me”. Why is it always easy for you to believe her but not me”. I broke down completely.
“Nara… “
“No!,”. I shook my head, tears burning behind my eyes.
“Every time something happens, I'm the one who gets blamed.”
My father stared at me for several seconds before his expression hardened.
“You two” . He pointed towards the maids standing nearby.
“I want you to get Ellie away from her. I don't care how you do it. Just get her away. And if you can kill the bastard in her that would be better”.
“Dad…”
“Since you've chosen your part, I'll do the same”.
I finally released Ellie's wrist, shoving her forward.
“Ellie…”
My mother caught her, wrapping an arm around her while examining her tear stained face and trembling body.
The sight made me crack.
Of course. She ran to Ellie. She always did.
I stood there alone, my chest rising and falling as I awaited what came next.
My father looked at me. “Get her things and throw her out of my house”.
My breath caught.
“She's no daughter of mine”.
For a moment I couldn't hear anything. I stared at my father waiting for him to take it back.
He didn't.
“Why did you bring me back?”. The word slipped out
His expression changed slightly.
“If this was how you were going to treat me..” My voice trembled. “Why did you bring me back?”.
For the first time he walked away and that hurt more if he had shouted at me.
He couldn't even answer.
I looked at the room one last time.
At my mother and Ellie who was wrapped safely in her arms.
I swallowed the lump in my throat. “Don't bother throwing my things out”.
My father's footsteps stopped.
“I can go alone, nothing here belongs to me anyway.” I headed for the door.
“I'm the father of her child”. A voice sounded.
I paused in my tracks, in disbelief.
I could hear the gasps of people and the sound of Ellie screaming.
“No you're not. You're not the father of the child”.
I turned and it as the one face I never believed I could see again.
