Olivia stirred from her sleep, her senses attuned to the slightest disturbance in the quiet of their shared room. Sophia's restless tossing and turning had not escaped her notice, a silent testament to her sister's discomfort. With a gentle touch, Olivia reached out to her, concern etched in the lines of her face.
"Are you okay?" she inquired softly, her voice a soothing melody in the predawn stillness.
Sophia's response was a mere whisper, her words laden with fatigue and unease. "I'm not feeling well. The night was rough."
A surge of guilt washed over Olivia as she realized the depth of Sophia's discomfort. How could she have slept soundly beside her sister, oblivious to her suffering? With a tender caress, she assessed Sophia's condition, noting the telltale signs of fever and the absence of blankets despite the winter chill.
Their decision to share a room was not borne out of necessity but rather a desire for constant companionship. In a world fraught with uncertainties, their bond served as an anchor, grounding them in a sea of uncertainty. They sought solace in each other's presence, finding comfort in the familiarity of shared experiences and mutual affection.
Although they used to talk daily till they both or one of them had to sleep but last night Olivia was not able to give Sophia much time since she cam eback home tired and maybe she was drained mentally more than she was physically tired which led her to sleep. She left Sophia reading her book and left to sleep earlier. And now realizing that Sophia had been in discomfort last night, her peaceful sleep was pushing her to guilt.
"Please, let me take care of you," she implored, offering the thermometer to Sophia. "Your health is my priority."
Sophia hesitated, torn between her desire not to burden Olivia and her need for comfort. "But your classes—"
Olivia's determination was unwavering. "Nothing is more important than you."
As Olivia tended to Sophia, the weight of their interdependence hung heavy in the air. Their reluctance to trouble each other with their woes underscored the depth of their bond, a silent understanding forged through years of shared laughter and tears.
After she had instructed the cook what to send in their room for Sophia and herself she came back. Despite Sophia's protests, Olivia insisted on their shared meal, refusing to let her sister retreat into solitude.
"I just want to sleep," Sophia murmured weakly, her resistance faltering under Olivia's unwavering gaze.
"Not until you've eaten," Olivia countered gently, coaxing Sophia to partake in the nourishment before them.
Their breakfast became a solemn affair, the weight of the moment hanging palpably in the air. As Sophia succumbed to sleep once more, Olivia remained vigilant, a silent sentinel by her sister's side.
In moments like these, their roles as caregiver and comforter blurred, revealing the depth of their connection. Through sickness and in health, they stood together, their love and devotion unwavering. In the quiet solitude of their shared room, they found solace in each other's presence, a beacon of light in the darkness of uncertainty.
After they got done with the breakfast, Olivia left her to sleep so she could feel better. At the same time Olivia was expecting a message from Tyler that would inquire about her absence but she thought to herself that he might have been busy with lectures.
Olivia had never felt insecure in their relationship and also she was not insecure at the moment and something was there that she knew that Tyler was hiding but she had no clue about it. She came up with a solution and thought that she should give some time and space to him and he will open up himself.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard her father coming through the hallway, she guesssed he was on phone because he was talking about work stuff. Suddenly the voice was no more there but she saw him coming towards her, for a second they both looked at each other. Olivia with a fainted smile and her father with a slight but genuine smile.
"Good Morning, you did not go to college today?" he inquired like someone who cared or was really concerned for her.
"Sophie was not feeling well and I thought it was not a good idea to leave her alone" she replied.
"Oh I see, can I see her" he felt concerned.
"She was not able to sleep last night so I think she might be sleeping now, you can meet her when you are back" she came up with a suggestion.
"I am not sure when I will be back since I have a dinner to attend with Sarah today but I will meet her soon, as soon as I am free" he was still busy with the phone, someone was texting him continuosly.
"Take care hun, I'll leave now" before Olivia could say something he said again and left.
Olivia also was not interested in draggin this meaningless conversation that would result into something disappointment, it was almost the same everytime they saw eachother. Olivia and Sophia never expected anything from him, it was not something like they had anything against him but they also never felt anything in this daughter-father relationship.
Olivia came out of her thoughts as soon as her phone beeped with a message from Tyler which said that he was missing him at college today. Obviously he would have missed her beacuse he was nothing in college without her, nobody knew or bother to talk to him when he was alone.
Olivia's face lit up with joy while typing "I am also missing you my heart but had to take off since Sophie was not feeling well and needed me here". In that exact moment she knew their love had not faded, it was there and she was just overthinking the scenario which was continuously taking a toll on her mental health. She unintentionally expected Tyler to pay them a little visit but he did not offer, he was also busy planning for what he was upto next.
