Emma stormed out of the lounge after a heated argument with her mother, the force of her frustration echoing in the slam of her bedroom door. It had become all too common for her to react this way whenever things failed to align with her desires. Engaged to William Anderson for over a year now, Emma had initially entered into the arrangement with unbridled enthusiasm. William, the only child of Andrew and Rachel Anderson, was a captivating presence in social circles, effortlessly commanding attention without overtly seeking it. His demeanor exuded an effortless charm that had captured Emma's affections from the moment they met. Despite their engagement, however, their relationship lacked the depth and intimacy that Emma had envisioned for her future.

William's parents and the Wilsons shared a long-standing friendship, often hosting dinners and attending social gatherings together. Despite their frequent interactions, William's absence was notable, as he seldom accompanied his parents to these events. Unlike the stereotypical wealthy scion vying for attention, William's understated charisma endeared him to others effortlessly. It was in one such gathering that Emma found herself drawn to him, their interaction brief but impactful. Emma's phone buzzed with an incoming call from William, but she promptly declined it, choosing instead to send him a brief text explaining that she wouldn't be able to meet him due to the argument with her mother. The tension between them had been brewing for weeks, especially whenever Sarah broached the topic of William. Emma couldn't understand why her mother couldn't see the potential in their relationship, especially after months of waiting for William's approval and planning their meeting.

As she mulled over the recent argument, Emma felt a surge of frustration and disappointment. Sophie and Olivia eagerly awaited Tyler's arrival, the anticipation palpable in the air. Tyler has expressed his intentions of visiting Sophie over the weekend on Friday while Olivia was leaving for home. After she told Sophie she got as much excited to meet Tyler as she could as an introvert because he was one of the two acquaintances she had in her life.

Olivia had intentionally chosen to dress in green, Tyler's favorite colour, a subtle yet deliberate gesture to catch his attention. Knowing Tyler's fondness for Sophie, Olivia hoped to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for his visit.

As Tyler arrived punctually, bearing a bouquet of flowers for Sophie, "Hey, Sophie! These are for you," Tyler greeted, handing over the bouquet.

"Thank you, Tyler! They're beautiful," Sophie exclaimed, her face lighting up with delight.

. They settled in with cups of tea, engaging in easy conversation about their respective lives.

"I'm torn between following my passion for art and pursuing psychology. It's such a tough decision," Sophie shared updates about her recent completion of an art course and her upcoming decision between psychology and art as her major.

"I'm sure whatever you choose, you'll excel at it, Soph. You're incredibly talented," Tyler reassured her with a warm smile.

Tyler, in turn, discussed his tentative thoughts on his final year thesis, admitting to feeling somewhat adrift in his academic pursuits.

"I just can't seem to settle on a topic for my thesis. It's frustrating," Tyler admitted, running a hand through his hair in frustration.

"Don't worry, Ty. You'll figure it out I am sure," Olivia chimed in, offering words of encouragement

Throughout their conversation, Olivia remained mostly quiet, content to listen and observe the bond between Tyler and Sophie. However, her attention wavered when Emma entered the lounge, clad in a figure-hugging black midi dress that accentuated her curves. As very much unexpected of Emma after an argument, she passed quietly throwing an unnecessary tantrums she usually threw at everyone. Tyler's gaze lingered momentarily on Emma, a fact not lost on Olivia, who couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy at his fleeting attention towards her stepsister.

Emma's cursory glance toward the trio did not go unnoticed, and Olivia's unease grew as Tyler's focus returned to Sophie. Despite her jealousy, Olivia maintained her composure, masking her feelings as they continued their conversation. However, beneath the surface, Olivia couldn't shake the sense of insecurity that gnawed at her, fueled by Tyler's brief distraction.

As the evening wore on, Tyler eventually took his leave, politely declining Sophie's invitation to stay for dinner. Olivia sensed his discomfort, understanding his reluctance to remain in an environment where he felt out of place. Tyler's middle-class background often left him feeling insecure among Olivia's affluent family, despite their efforts to treat him as an equal.

After Tyler's departure, Olivia couldn't shake the lingering sense of insecurity. They had so many girls lingering around in the college and Olivia never felt insecure the way she felt today this might be because of the relationship she shared with her step sister and she did not like how Tyler was impressed with her look and not hers. Olivia knew her worth and realized that she was always the centre of attention in college but still she found herself questioning her own worth in the moment, comparing herself to Emma and feeling inadequate in Tyler's eyes.
