I told him about the girl, leaving out some details. Mykel had been my best friend since frat school. He once saved me from a near-fatal attack in frat school,so he also got injured so I had to help him by biting him ,when he was human,that was how he was turned into a werewolf, and he rented a room in my apartment, so we were also roommates.

“I’ll be traveling for a year,” he said.

“No problem,” I replied.

“Don’t rent my apartment out,” he added.

“Sure thing, pal,” I said, hugging him.

BACK HOME.

I couldn’t stop thinking about Helena. Then I heard my wolf voice:

“She’s our mate… how is this possible?”

I asked, no one in particular.

Helena’s POV

I couldn’t sleep.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw him…

The way his arms wrapped around me, the warmth of his body against mine.

I shook my head.

No.

I hated him. Or at least… I was supposed to.

I had just gotten home when my phone started ringing.

Daniel ❤️ flashed on the screen.

I hesitated before picking up.

“Hello…”

“Where have you been?” his voice came, sharp and cold.

I frowned. “I told you, I had a family dinner.”

“And you couldn’t call me?”

I sighed. “It wasn’t a big deal.”

“It is a big deal to me, Helena,” he snapped.

I went silent.

“You’re my fiancée. I need to know where you are at all times.”

My chest tightened.

“I’m tired, Daniel. Can we talk tomorrow?”

There was a pause.

“Fine,” he said finally. “But don’t ignore my calls again.”

The line went dead.

I dropped my phone on the bed and exhaled slowly.

Why did talking to my own fiancé feel so exhausting?

And why…

did I feel safer in a stranger’s arms last night?

The next morning, I got ready for work.

Today was important. My first official day at Blake Holdings.

I couldn’t afford to mess this up.

The building stood tall and intimidating, its glass walls reflecting the morning sun. I took a deep breath before walking in.

“Good morning,” the receptionist greeted politely.

“Good morning,” I replied, trying to sound confident.

After getting directions, I made my way to the executive floor.

My heart pounded with every step.

I knocked softly.

“Come in.”

The voice…

My breath hitched.

No.

It couldn’t be.

I pushed the door open slowly…

…and froze.

Sitting behind the large desk, looking like he owned the entire world, was Tristan Blake.

My heart stopped.

“You?” I whispered.

He leaned back in his chair, his eyes dark and unreadable.

“Miss clumsy,” he said, a smirk forming on his lips.

Heat rushed to my face.

“I didn’t know—”

“That I was your boss?” he cut in smoothly.

I swallowed hard.

This had to be a nightmare.

He stood up slowly, his tall frame making the room feel smaller.

Every step he took toward me made my heart beat faster.

“So…” he said, stopping right in front of me.

“You work for me now.”

I forced myself to stay calm.

“Yes, sir.”

His lips twitched.

“Sir?” he repeated softly. “That sounds… interesting.”

I frowned slightly, confused by the way he was looking at me.

Like he knew something I didn’t.

“Relax,” he said suddenly, stepping back. “I don’t bite.”

Liar.

He picked up a file and handed it to me.

“Your work starts now.”

Our fingers brushed slightly.

A strange feeling shot through me, making me gasp softly.

His eyes darkened immediately.

For a moment…

The air changed.

“Careful, Helena,” he said in a low voice.

“You might get burned.”

My breath caught.

Before I could respond, the door suddenly opened.

“Babe!”

I turned—and my heart dropped.

Daniel.

He walked in like he owned the place, his eyes immediately landing on Tristan.

“Who’s this?” he asked, his tone already sharp.

I swallowed.

“Daniel… what are you doing here?”

He ignored me and stepped closer, placing a possessive hand around my waist.

“I asked you a question.”

The room went cold.

Damon’s gaze dropped to Daniel’s hand on me…

…and something dangerous flickered in his eyes.

“I’m her boss,” Damon said calmly.

Daniel scoffed.

“Then keep it professional.”

A slow, dangerous smile appeared on Tristan’s face.

“I always do.”

But the way he looked at me said something else entirely.
