2. Unknown Human

______________________ . . . Calum felt pain like he had never felt as soon as he heard those words. He had no idea why he was feeling that way; like his wolf was in agony but the little fucker refused to communicate with him, as if he was trying to bear most of the pain by himself and was trying to keep something from him. The healer, Arnold, took his leave and went off to attend to his other patients, most of them young wolves who injured themselves during the sparring lesson today. It was the medical practitioners who could do something now as werewolves were helpless when wolfbane or silver was involved. The wolf with a medical degree walked out. Her name was Dr. Alna James and she was pretty good at what she did. "What can be done?" Calum asked immediately. "Alpha." She bowed down in respect first before responding. "As she is human, the wolfbane does not affect her in any way like it does us but we are going to use a hemodialyzer to purify her blood and then try healing her so that she can be quickly send back to human territory." "Alright." Calum nodded. "And do we have the machine." "Unfortunately no, Alpha." Dr. James said. "I have made an order. I am hoping the poison clears out on its own to an extent but you know how persistent Wolfbane can be in the body." Calum really could not concentrate on the doctor's words due to the distress his wolf was in. And it was something that he had never felt before. He mind-linked Gretchen asking her if everything was alright in the pack and she responded in the affirmative and he could feel his Gamma and her mate's annoyance at his interrupting their private moment. "Alright, keep an eye on her progress." He said; he felt like the air was getting thicker and harder to breathe. Calum quickly walked away. He needed to get some fresh air and then find out what the hell was going on. Why the hell was they after a human? This had never happened in were-history. Especially the rogues. Their sole purpose in life seemed like disrupting the lives of the pack wolves. Why would they do something to hurt humans who had nothing to do with them? Or maybe, this particular human had found out their secret, which meant she needed to be dealt with by the were-council before she could be send back to human civilization. Whatever it was, it had to wait until the woman woke up. For now, all they could do was wait for her recovery while guarding their own territory from any attack. . . . Zygo didn't waste a moment in plucking the heart out of the wolf's chest. Leo watched, his eyes on his elder brother's cold merciless ones. "Find her." He turned to the many cowering wolves. He kicked the dead body and said, "Or I think you already know what will happen to you." With that, the king of the rogues walked away. Leo looked down at the body. If he had only done his job and kept the human in their dungeon, he wouldn't be dead right now. He wondered what kind of incompetent wolf he must have been for a mere human to have outsmarted him. He tilted his head, a cruel smile forming on his face. He looked at the still terrified guards and said, "You three!" "Yes Sir!" They turned to him quickly, their eyes wide and hands trembling. "Eat him." He said. If it was possible for their eyes to have widened any further, they would have. But they could not. How could they eat a wolf who was like a brother to them? "Leave only the hair and teeth behind." He shrugged. "Unlike my brother, I don't give any teaser of what happens to you if you disobey me." He walked away with that, leaving the wolves with no choice. They were once stupid teenagers, having rebelled and joined the force of the wolf who had declared himself the Rogue King and killed anyone who refused to accept him as just that. But they never thought the repercussions would be so severe. If they could go back in time and retake their decisions, they would stay clear of the Rogue King's path for the rest of their lives but now, they could do nothing. They were bound by a blood oath to him, an oath officiated by a witch. They had to work for him and suffer under him until death took away their misery. Gemma smiled as she watched everything that had just happened. Her sons were perfect. They would continue their father's legacy. Both of them were cruel, merciless and fearless. . . . Her eyes flickered open, only to close shut immediately due to the bright blinding light that rushed in as soon as her eyelids separated. "Oh my goddess!" Someone's hoarse voice reached her ears, bothering her already throbbing head. "You are awake! She's awake!" Alexandra wanted to tell whoever it was that she was completely aware that she was awake but it hurt to breathe, forget about speaking. And she had no idea where she was. Was she back to the awful place she had worked so hard to escape from? Because if so, she would rather die than live to know what they were going to do with her for what she did. She squinted her eyes open again, forcing them to stay that way so that she could get accustomed to the bright light and when she finally did, she realized she was on a hospital bed. Did that mean that she had managed to escape from them? But she could swear that she remembered being about to be mauled by a wolf before she passed out. How was she still alive after all that? "What happened?" She croaked out. "That's what we would like to know too." The chirpy nurse said. "Wait, I am sure they are coming." 'Who?' Alexandra wondered. Who was coming? Was her mother coming? Because she happened to be the only one she wanted coming for her. She did not want to be abducted or tortured or beaten up or nearly mauled to death any time soon. She just wanted to go home and get a good night's rest in her own bed. She had no idea how long it had been since she was kidnapped. She had lost all track of day and time at this moment. "Finally." Dr. Alna James sighed in relief as she walked in, taking out her stethoscope from her coat pocket as she approached the weak human. "You had us worrying that you would not make it." Alexandra finally sat up with the help of the nurse and looked at the tag on the doctor's coat as she auscultated her chest. "Thanks. I thought I was dead too." The doctor smiled. She was about to say that their Alpha would be there soon to meet her but she bit her tongue to stop herself from making such a stupid mistake. They did not know if this woman knew about werewolves or any other paranormal. And if she did not, they could not be the ones to let her know. That will put them in more trouble than they were already in. "We will make sure that you are completely fine and then you can go home." She said instead. "How long have I been here?" Alexandra asked, looking out the window. All she could see were trees, trees and more trees, just like the day she finally escaped from her captors. "Two weeks actually." Dr. James said, wondering what it was taking the Alpha so long. She had already mind-linked the authorities. They were supposed to be the ones to answer the hundred million questions the woman would have. The doctor was not trained in communication with humans though she spent time in medical school – she was an asocial geek back there - and she could slip up and ruin everything for everyone so she was being extremely conscious. "And did you contact someone?" Alexandra asked suspiciously, not seeing any sign of anyone having visited her in that room. The doctor bit her lip. See, this was what she was worried about. She did not know how to answer to that question because she did not have a convincing answer and she knew what the follow up question would be if she simply told the human the truth that they had indeed not contacted anyone. Alna decided to play it safe. "I think your vitals are normal." She said, taking a quick look at the screen though she had not done any basic physical examination and then added, "The authorities will be answering your questions. I have places to be." She turned around and was about to leave the room as quickly as she can when she suddenly paused and turned the newly hired nurse who was way too enthusiastic and stupid for her own good. "Lucy, come with me." "But the Alp-" "DON'T USE THAT WORD!" Alna screamed through the mind-link. "NOW COME WITH ME WITHOUT ASKING ANY MORE STUPID QUESTIONS." Lucy pouted and turned to Alexandra. "You should get some rest." Alexandra looked at them cluelessly and confused out of her wits as the two women quickly speed-walked out of the room. What the hell had just happened? And why the hell wasn't her mother informed? She took her chart that nurse had left in her hurry and she was even more confused to see that the name column said, "Unknown Human". "What kind of place is this?" She wondered out loud. . . . ____________________
