Chapter 01

The Mysterious Book

Kian's POV

Do I really look special? To me, I'm just a normal student and kid living in this chaotic world. But I don't know why they admire me.

"K-Kian, your grades are so high! How do you do it?" asked my friend Brian.

He's usually like that, so bear with him.

"You're being dramatic, like you've never seen grades like this before," I said, and he frowned.

Seriously?

"Yeah, this is the first time I've seen something like this," he said with a bit of sass.

"Well, it's expected from Kian. He has a tutor and loves to review," said Aidan, my other friend, with a smile.

"I-I'm not that diligent," I denied, and he smirked.

"You review for two hours a day, how can you say that?" he asked me, laughing.

There's me, Brian, and Aidan. We're the trio that no one can separate. Brian is considered the Joker, while Aidan is considered an introvert because he has that kind, calm, and I would say cool personality.

So, how about me? They say I'm the brain of the trio because I'm smart, and I can't deny that.

"Alright guys, I'm going home," I said, bidding them farewell. I smiled at them before running off. I was about to get in the car, but Brian suddenly stopped me.

"Kian! Wait!" he shouted. I looked at him and saw him and Aidan running towards me. "Can we make a request?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"What is it?" I asked. Brian smiled widely and suddenly grabbed my hand.

"Can you drive us to Alzechga Bookstore? We have something to do there," he requested.

"Sure, you guys go ahead and get in the car," I instructed them with a smile. I saw their wide grins as they ran towards the car and sat in the backseat.

They really had some unique personalities. I don't know why, but their personalities...they make me feel comfortable.

But sometimes, they can be annoying.

"By the way, guys. What book are you buying at the bookstore?" I asked, but no one paid attention because they were both focused on the window. "Wow! You guys are so excited, is this your first time riding in a car?" I asked them, but they ignored me because they were looking out the window, watching how fast my car was going.

Okay, I was really amused by their response. But I can't blame them, this is their first time riding in it.

"Kian, do you want to come with us to Alzechga Book Store?" Brian asked me with a smile.

"I think I have nothing to do later, I'll just rest from reviewing, so I'll just go with you guys," I said to them, crossing my arms.

"We're here, Sir," the Driver said to me, and Aidan and Brian immediately got out. Their faces were clearly excited.

I don't know about them, I don't see anything interesting about Alzechga Book Store.

"Thank you, Driver."

"No problem," the Driver said with a smile, waving at me as I left. Brian and Aidan and I went into Alzechga Book Store, and I immediately felt the coolness of the air conditioning as soon as I opened the door.

"There are so many books here, I wonder what would be good to read?" I asked myself, I wandered around to find a book that would interest me.

As I was browsing, I stopped when I saw a book I wanted. A book about space.

"Wow! This looks like a good read," I said to myself, my jaw almost dropping because I'm interested in the solar system.

"Solar system? Humph! I knew you'd pick up that book," Brian said with a smile.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Well, Aidan and I came here yesterday and saw it. When I saw that book, I knew you'd be interested in it," he replied.

Good thing it wasn't bought yet.

"How did you know I like things about the universe?" I asked.

"Do you even need to ask?" Brian asked, Aidan approached and answered.

"When we talk, you always mention things about the planets, your keychain is also the moon."

That explains it.

I just smiled at them, I took the book and brought it to the cashier. Brian and Aidan also bought books, but I think they were comics that were just released.

As I expected.

After we bought the books, Brian said goodbye to me.

"Kian, can you wait here? We'll just go to the bathroom," Brian said, then ran off. I just stood there, hugging the book I bought, but after a few minutes, I felt a warmth in my hand. I just looked at the book and it seemed like nothing was happening.

"Why is this book so warm?" I asked myself, but soon my eyes widened as it gradually started to glow.

Not from the surroundings, but from the…BOOK!

"W-What is this?!" I shouted. The light was so bright that I had no choice but to close my eyes.

What's happening?

At first, I thought it was just a normal wind, but I realized it was a wind coming from the book, and…it was absorbing me?

I just screamed because I couldn't speak anymore. I felt like I was being sucked into the book. But as I was being sucked into the book, my voice seemed to change. I realized that the book automatically opened, and I saw a picture of a moon that was incredibly beautiful.

"The children chosen by the moon must go to the world of Haesis, whether they like it or not!" I heard a man's voice from inside the book. I couldn't see his face very well because of the light, but I saw the crown on his head, so I'm sure…he's a king.

A few minutes later, I heard Brian shouting my name. Because of this, the suction stopped, and when I came to my senses, I suddenly threw the book.

"Kian!" Brian shouted at me. I looked at him because of the strength of his shout.

"Good thing you two are back," I said to them. I immediately went to them and hugged them without any hesitation.

"Kian?" Brian asked, clearly confused.

"I'm sorry, I'm just scared," I replied. I knew Brian was surprised by what I said.

"Don't worry, we're here," Aidan said with a smile.

They really are my true friends.

"Why did you throw the book? Didn't you buy it?" Brian asked.

"N-Nothing, I saw a spider. I have arachnophobia, so I threw it," I lied to them. I didn't want to explain to them because I don't think they'd believe me. Besides, something unbelievable happened. When I looked at the place where I threw the book…it's gone.

Where did the book go?

What was that anyway? What was that light? Besides, who was that king?

Tsk! I think I've been studying too much.

"Let's go Kian, let's go home," Brian said with a smile. We went to the car and saw my Driver eating lunch. It seemed like we kept Kuya waiting for a long time.

The three of us got in the backseat and put on our seatbelts. Manong Driver stopped eating and put on his seatbelt, then Kuya Driver started driving and Brian and Aidan went home to their houses. I also went home and got out of the car.

"Welcome back, Mr. Kian," the maids greeted me.

"Uhm, it's okay with me if you just call me Kian. I feel like I'm old when you call me mister," I complained to them.

I'm just a 12-year-old boy, my mom and dad are rich, but…

"Sorry, Mr. Kian, we'll get in trouble with your father if we call you by your name," the maids apologized, and they bowed their heads.

"Tsk! My dad is so dramatic. What was he thinking?" I asked the maids. They took my bag and went to my room, but I couldn't get the book out of my mind. I felt like I was traumatized.

"Mr. Kian, dinner is ready!" the maid said to me. I went downstairs after changing clothes. I went to the dining table and they even tied a scarf around my neck.

It was really boring, my dad and mom weren't here because they were in America, so I was eating alone with the maids and bodyguards here. After I finished eating, the doorbell suddenly rang.

"I'll go get it, Mr. Kian," my maid suggested to me. I smiled and declined because I might be bothering them.

"I'll go, I'm done eating anyway. I'll get it," I declined to the maid. I drank some water and walked to the gate. I saw Aidan waiting at the gate. "Aidan? What do you need?" I asked him.

"Oh Kian, can you check your car if my wallet is there? I think I left it there," Aidan requested.

"Okay, stay here!" I ordered Aidan. I went to the car and checked the backseat to see if his wallet was there, and I saw his wallet open.

Because the wallet was open, I accidentally saw the picture in his wallet.

"Wait, is this Aidan when he was a baby? His face looks familiar," I said.

I'm not kidding. It really looked like I've seen that baby before, but it's impossible because we only met when we were in Grade 4. I just shook my head and closed the wallet and immediately went back to Aidan.

"Oh Aidan, are you the baby in the picture?" I asked.

"Oh yeah, why do you ask?"

"Nothing, I saw your wallet open, so I saw the picture," I replied with a smile, but why does his face look so familiar when he was a baby?

Never mind, all babies look alike.

"What are you talking about? It's okay if you see it," Aidan said. I really like his personality, I think he's the nicest of the three of us. That's how Aidan is. He's the opposite of Brian.

"Aidan, are you free tonight?" I asked Aidan.

"Yeah, I'm free 24 hours!"

"If that's the case, can you and Brian come here tonight?"

"Huh? Tonight? Why?" he asked me.

"I want to have a sleepover party with you," I replied. Aidan smiled at my answer.

"Sure! We'll be here at 5:00pm," Aidan said and ran off, smiling, to tell Brian.

Before it was 5:00pm, I prepared the game consoles, soft drinks that I put in the fridge, snacks and desserts like cake, and chips and biscuits.

And before 5pm, someone rang the doorbell. I went out to see if it was Aidan and Brian at the gate, but when I looked at the gate, there was no one there.

"Why is there no one? It seemed like someone rang the doorbell a while ago," I said confused, and I turned around, and as I was about to go inside, the doorbell rang again, but when I looked again, there was no one there.

"H-Huh? Is it really our doorbell that's ringing?" I asked myself, but my eyes widened when I turned around because the glowing book was right in front of me.

"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!" I screamed, trembling. I backed away when I saw the book, but I tripped on a rock so I fell backwards. Luckily, my bodyguards came running, as well as the maid.

"Mr. Kian! What happened?" the maid asked me. The maid and the bodyguards helped me up.

"Didn't you see a floating book?" I asked them, my eyes still wide.

"Sir? We didn't see any book here. You've been here alone for a while, we don't know why you're looking at the gate, the doorbell hasn't rung yet."

"Huh? Didn't you hear the doorbell? It rang repeatedly a while ago," I told them, but it seemed like they didn't hear anything.

"I'm sorry, but we didn't hear anything," the maid replied softly, and she immediately brought me back to my room.

"Mr. Kian, it's better if you relax for a while, maybe your friends will be here soon," the maid suggested to me. I hugged her tightly because I was so scared earlier. I felt like I was going to have a heart attack because of what happened.

"What kind of book did you see earlier?" the maid asked me, but I didn't answer because someone rang the doorbell again.

"There it is again, someone's ringing the doorbell."

"Yes, I heard it," the maid said. She stood up to see who was at the gate and I waited in my room. A few minutes later, the maid came in with Aidan and Brian.

"Kian, I didn't know your house was this big," Brian said to me with a smile. I sighed because I felt safer now that they were here.

"By the way, Kian. Are you okay?" Brian asked, I was surprised by his question.

"I'm okay, why do you ask?"

"Your maid told us you were acting strange today," he replied.

"Because..."

I had no answer, I didn't know how to explain it to them.

"Is it because of the book that glowed and almost sucked you in?" Brian asked. My eyes widened at his question and I looked at him.

"W-Wait, you saw that too?" I asked.

"Actually, Aidan and I both saw it," he replied.

So it means, I wasn't imagining things.

"Let's not talk about that for now, let's just enjoy ourselves," Aidan said with a smile, I nodded.

I guess he's right, I'll avoid stress for now.

As we said, we had a sleepover party, played video games, ate snacks, and drank soft drinks.

It was only at 12:00AM that Brian and Aidan fell asleep. Aidan slept well, he didn't move around while sleeping, but Brian's feet were everywhere, even reaching my face, but it's okay, at least it eased the fear I felt earlier. Still one of the best nights of my life.
