Major Thomas commonly had at least six V-Screens active at any one time. Often more, seldom less. All displayed meaningful data, showing columns of numbers or dense text or vids of incidents or information snippets, all gathered and presented to him by algorithms tweaked and refined over many years.
To a large extent, Major Thomas defined himself to himself by these displays, by the V-Screens glowing with images and pregnant with information. It was vastly satisfying to slowly comprehend two or even three items were related, joined by an underlying logic as fragile as a spider’s web. Sometimes it took him weeks of painstaking analysis to make connections and then find them destroyed by an anomaly he’d overlooked.
