Chapter 43 Spiker stood, holding the small bundle in his arms, cradling it so the tiny head with the great large eyes nestled in the crook of his elbow. ‘I don’t have the words.’ He thought. ‘I don’t have the language for this.’ Allegra was standing in front of him, holding out a small bag and a padded backpack of a design he had not seen before. ‘How can I think what to feel,’ he thought ‘when I don’t have the words?’ Allegra was saying things. Words: efficient, practical words, but he hardly heard. “I don’t have the words.” His voice was barely discernible. “I don’t know what to feel, I don’t know what to say.” She held out the bag to him. “Some baby food and other items you will need.” She hooked his fingers over the handle, so it dangled in front of him. She held up the backpack.
