“Allegra!” His face transmogrified and became almost radiant. “Allegra!” And, like a virus spreading rapidly from one person to the next, his neighbours also looked up, then stood and joined in what fast became a chant. “Allegra! Allegra! Allegra!”
And within a few seconds, all the spectators were standing and staring upwards, the chanting slowing, the word ‘Allegra’ extending and turning into a sigh of expectation and relief “Allegraaaah! Allegraaaah!”. It was rhythmic and hypnotic as if they had all fallen into a trance-like, adoring state.
