Arriving in Rome, Caesar's men set about seeking alliances to influence his electionA few days later, Caesar's delegation arrived in Rome and walked through the streets full of fortune-tellers and all kinds of merchandise that always crowded there at yearend. First they went to visit a few senators to win support for Caesar's cause, but they found that most senators were alarmed at Caesar's candidacy as Chief Consul of the Year. They had very little success speaking directly with some of them and then they tried to speak at the Senate. Curio and Mark Anthony decided to go to the Curia Hostilia, where the senate meetings were held, to ensure the will of Caesar was made clear to all. However, as soon as most of the Senate heard the news of their presence, some senators rose against them
