CHAPTER 9After breakfast, the two of them headed to Miles’s office to continue their investigation of Olivia Sims’s disappearance. Ryan’s investigative skills, while totally on the journalistic side, were still valuable in looking for information. His first task on this Wednesday morning would be to make calls to Chicago area hospitals to see if Olivia was a patient at one of them. He’d use a little subterfuge to avoid resistance searching for her name on their computer.
He’d open with: “Hi, would you kindly connect me to Olivia Sims’s room, please?”
“And what is your relationship to the patient?” was the most common response.
“I’m her brother, Sidney,” he’d answer.
“Let me check.” After a moment, the response would typically be, “We do not have a patient here by that name.”
