CHAPTER 38The night with his friends had done Miles a world of good. He awoke the next morning refreshed and, much to his surprise, having nothing in particular to do. His casework for Bobbie was complete and his undercover work for the FBI was either finished or, at the very least, in a holding pattern. It occurred to him that he hadn’t been to his office in a few days, so he recruited Agent Stevens to accompany him there. He would have gladly gone alone, but he realized it would be against the rules and foolhardy to do so. The floor behind the front door of his office was littered with mail.
