Another failed audition

1124 Words
U.S.A, DETROIT~ Ruth stepped onto the stage with an air of confidence and determination. She closed her eyes for some moments, imagining herself on the set, acting. The dream she had always had, ever since she was young. She took a deep long breath, and a bright cheerful smile spread on her lips. After counting one to three in her mind, something she does whenever she goes for an audition to prepare herself. Her performance began and the judges all glued their eyes on her. Their eyes following each and every movements of her. Her charisma, her enthralled voice, her smooth gestures and her impressive unpredictable expressions. Definitely, she was experienced and good. When she brought the performance to an end, the judges all encourage her with loud applause and big smiles of approval. "That was...excellent!" Exclaimed Judge Barley. "It was really impressive!" "You have conveyed a great message within a short period of time, it was fabulous" Judge Harris also praised. "You made the character alive, and it was entertaining." "I must say, what a great talent you've got there. I'm amazed. It's rare to find." Judge Iris nodded in agreement. Ruth smiled widely, unable to hide her happiness. Does that means, she finally has a chance of getting the role? A thought crossed her mind and she beams more. However...as the judges take a look at her application form, their expressions suddenly drops, their smiles disappeared, and they look at each other, with disappointment and discomfort. "Umm...your name is... Ruth Davenport?" Judge Harris asked, his voice low and unwelcoming. Silence fell over everywhere, and Ruth's face slowly sags. Those expressions the judges have on, she knows it well. The question they just asked her, has been the same one she received, before her hope is put to a test everytime she goes for an interview. "Yy..yes. That's my name" She replied, her voice a little bit shaky. "Oh, I see. Miss Davenport, you can take your leave now. We'll surely get back to you" Judge Harris said icily, without giving her a glance. Ruth frowned. "Does that means, you're not picking me..." She asks uncertain, sincerely hoping that isn't the case. Judge Iris intervened, trying to put the situation under control. "No, no, it's just... Your talent is exceptional, Ruth. We certainly gonna get back to you...surely" Ruth's heart sank. She knew that tone, that hesitation. It spoke volumes about the unspoken disappointment she feared she'd face. Once again. As she left the stage, she wondered if there would ever be breakthrough for this endless disappointments, will her dream really be something achievable for her, despite her undeniable talent. "Someone might actually thought you failed another audition...yet again" A familiar thin voice rang in her ears as she drag her feet solemnly along the hall, with her spirit down casted. She halted, looking sideways in search for the owner of the unpleasant voice. Layla cat walked with her arms crossed, a radiant smile dancing across her lips as she walks towards Ruthie with her manager lingering behind her. "Hello, Senior" She waves a palm at Ruthie the moment she got to where she's standing. "What are you doing standing alone like pitiful drenched fowl...a lot of people are here" She said to Ruthie who looks around taking notice of the people around engrossed in their own various activities. "I doubt so...Layla" Ruthie says, her voice barely audible. "By the way, why are you here?" She prompt further. Layla couldn't help breaking into a hysterical laughter on hearing such question. Ruthie had to crook a brow, dwelling on the question she asked, how it's funny and why she's laughing so hard like a deranged goat. "Senior, what kind of question is that? Did you forgot who I am? It's me, Layla! Layla Felix the country's little fairy? Would it be a surprise I'm at the Entertainment company in which I'm signed into?" She scoffs. Ruthie mouth an 'Oh' realizing how stupid she was for asking such a question. Layla is an actress like her. Back in the days, they usually went for auditions together and begged for roles just to be casted in one movie or the other. But fortunately for Layla, whether it's luck or just pure coincidence, one of the directors in the movie industry took a liking to her and cast her in a movie of his which ended up making her a star she is now. A year and some months after the movie, her popularity roses like flame fire. One of the biggest Entertainment Company, 'RISE ENT' contracted her. She got cast in different drama and commercials, the people loved how pure she is and was actually made the Country little fairy, earning a lot of awards as well. In the space of three years, she became a shining gold while her ( Ruthie) remains a diamond in the rough. "I don't need to ask why you're here Senior cause I can tell by your face already. So, you got rejected again?" She click her tongue. "Until when will you have to live like this seriously..." She added, shaking her head in contempt. "Wha_" "Cheer up senior, failing an audition is not the end of the world. This is not the first or second, you should have gotten used to it by now, it's has already been three years...isn't it?" She said rather carefreely. "Wow...I can't believe it's been that long...and you're still like this. Senior do you know, I find your case really funny, you're just like Tarzan, wandering aimlessly in the jungle for years...with no hope or future, since it became your reality and a part of you. Living pathetically and struggling hard just to survive...you don't even know when your Jane will come saving you, it's pathetic, isn't it?" She grins down at her. "I find it funny..." She chuckles. "How about this, I'll talk to the director maybe he can spare you a minor role. That will do right? You are good at playing those kinds of roles senior..." She gave her a knowing smirk. Ruthie's lips parted to say something but ended up closing back as no words could come out of her mouth. "Layla...we have to go, the president is waiting" Layla's manager said to her. "Umm...I'm busy now so let's talk later. It was nice seeing you Senior" Layla smiles walking away without waiting for her response while her manager also follows suit. Ruthie remains on her spot for a while, standing hopelessly with her head lowered. This is not the first time she'll find herself in situations like this or hear painful words from her but still, hearing them again...still hurts. It hurts not only her heart, but her pride.
