THE DINNER DATE

CHAPTER TWO

“Ding Dong” the door bell rang.”I’ll get the door” Mrs Harding said, it was Derrick.” Hello Mrs Harding, how are you doing? It’s been a minute” Derrick greeted. “It’s so nice to see you again, I’ll get sally for you, please make yourself comfortable “ she said. Mrs Harding went upstairs to get sally, who was still getting dressed in her room together with Ivy helping her get her hair done. “Sally darling, Mr handsome is downstairs, I’m sure you don’t wanna keep him waiting”Alright Mum” she replied. Sally’s mind crossed what had transpired with her and her father, she wondered how long she would keep the scar of 5th grade in her heart. She had never told anyone,not even her best friend Ivy. “ why are you so lost in thought Sally, what are you thinking “ Ivy asked . She smiled and assured her that she was fine. “ I really wanna meet your Mr handsome” Ivy teased her and they both Laughed. Ivy never believed in love since her first heartbreak, she felt love was a fantasy and isn’t something to go into, if one isn’t emotionally prepared. She always told Sally that the best way not to get hurt is to be in an open relationship, that way you won’t have to bother about your partner cheating on you or finding yourself in love with other people. Ivy’s first relationship was in high school, the guy whom she lost her virginity to promised that they would walk down the aisle together. She invested so much in the relationship to the point of losing her virginity to him. Ivy had never loved anyone the way she loved her first boyfriend. She visited him a night to their graduation at his apartment, she got the shock of her life. Ivy caught him in bed with another lady, she collapsed instantly. She was rushed to the hospital, where the doctor diagnosed her and the result showing she suffered from slight brain injury, due to the heavy fall . She spent 10 months at brain rehabilitation center London. After so much therapy and brain exercise, she promised never to fall in love with anyone again, she had been on her own since then.

Although Ivy never knew her parents , her grandmother raised her . She lost her parents when she was just a year old. They were traveling to the grandmother’s, for Christmas holidays, Ivy was in the backseat in her baby carriage. Her mother was sleeping, while her dad was driving. He turned back to look at Ivy who was playing peacefully, he was carried away and forgot he was on the wheels. He didn’t hear the honk of the truck. Before he knew it, he ran into the truck and that was all . Only Ivy survived the accident. Since then, she has been living with her grandmother. She raised Ivy alone with the little money she got from working as a clerk in an administrative district. When Ivy was 18 she left her grandmother’s and took a job as a waitress in a restaurant downtown. She took so many scholarship exams , amongst which was Harvard university exams. Ivy and Sally both sat for the exams , Ivy was lucky to get the scholarship. It was a dream come through for her.

A flowing red silky evening dress swept down the stairs, the slit of the dress was cut across her knee cap , revealing her clear thighs , her mammary came popping out through the silky v-necked shaped gown. With a light makeup on her face, showing her full lips which was even more noticeable because of the red lipstick she applied and her hair neatly styled in a large bun. Sally’s tiny waist made the gown to sit perfectly on her , revealing her widely pointed backside. As she walked down the stairs, Derrick looked in bewilderment as he couldn’t contain the joy in his heart, seeing how beautiful she looked. Derrick reached for her and gave her a kiss on the forehead. Ivy cleared her throat behind her, “ I almost forgot, Derrick meet Ivy, my best friend “ she said Derrick looked amazed to finally see her, he had heard so much about her , Sally always talked about how they stole meatballs from Mrs Harding’s pot .” I’ve heard a lot about you, it’s finally nice to meet you Ivy “ Derrick said as he gave her a handshake. Sally was pleased with the fact that her best friend had finally met Derrick..Ivy picked her bag and bade goodnight. ” I’ll be back at midnight Mum” sally said .“ Take your time my darling” Mrs Harding said with a long grin. Sally and Derrick left in a white Mercedes Benz which his dad gifted him on his last birthday.”I hope you don’t ruin that young girl’s life”Mr Harding yelled. Mr Harding had never been in support of Sally’s relationship with Derrick, he always had an issue with the wealthy men. He believed they cheated their way in getting the wealth they have. There was more to this that Mrs Harding didn’t know about her husband. She had no idea he was bitter about the fact that Sally never listened to him whenever he gave an instruction. She loved her mother more than she loved her dad, and she made it obvious to him.” Why do you always have to be a pain in the neck, can’t you be happy for your daughter , if you have a problem with her having a relationship with a wealthy family, would you rather her mingle with paupers“ Mrs Harding yelled back at her husband. Mr Harding was left star struck, as he didn’t believe his wife would come at him , the way she did.He hissed and slammed the door behind him, and drove off in this old BMW , which he had been using since sally was born . Mr Harding never believed in living a luxurious lifestyle, although he didn’t have that much money, but he was comfortable. A lot of times , his wife advised him to buy a new car, he always said new cars bring more problems. His wife would tease him to wake up from a paupers mentality. They would laugh about it and talk about other things.

Mr Harding worked as a janitor in West Inland Corporation, before he was promoted to the head of janitors , because of his dedicated work in the corporation. “Why is dad always picking at Sally and Derrick’s relationship, they seem to be a compatible duo” Robin said .” Your father always had issues with the wealthy men and while working as a janitor at the corporation, he always claimed they got wealthy through the money they embezzled from the corporation “ Mrs Harding replied. Mrs Harding loved her husband despite the fact that her parents kicked against it because he didn’t have enough means to cater for himself not to talk if starting a family. She was determined to go any length with her husband. In recounting Mr Harding’s success story, Mrs Harding is to be given more accolades than anyone .

“ Maybe he’s just upset at the fact that he wasn’t born with a silver spoon “ Robin thought aloud.” Watch it young man, that’s your father you’re talking about” Mrs Harding cautioned him at once. Robin apologized to his mum . Robin had always been known to be a smart kid , he had a petite figure and was sometimes got bullied by those who were bigger than him in his class. Robin is known to be the smartest kid in his class and has won many awards for his school.

Sally and Derrick arrived at the restaurant, sally who was looking like a goddess caught the attention of many as she walked majestically to the table that had been reserved for them. To Sally’s surprise, what she thought to be a duo dinner date, became a family introduction dinner. Sally had never met Derrick’s parents or family before, she had only heard about how wealthy the family is and how they trained their children in their family business which was Stock Management. Stock management was a family business right from Derrick’s great grandfather’s time. As sally reached for the table, all eyes were focused to her dress.” Oh what a large bosom” Derrick’s aunt muttered to herself. Sally developed cold feet and excused herself to the bathroom. She looked at the mirror of the bathroom and said to herself “ breathe sally, breathe,they are just good looking people, they can’t harm you, so breathe girl” She returned back to the table with her heads high and a large smile. Soon they began to eat. “So sally, I was told you’re in your third year at the school of Economics “ Derrick’s father, Mr Musk said.” Yes, I’m in fact finding it really fun and easy” Sally replied. Mr Musk gave her a long grin as he fixed his eyes on her mammary which was popping through her v-necked shaped gown. “ I had no idea people like you could afford the tuition fee of school of Economics “ Mrs Musk said looking at sally with disgust. Sally who suddenly felt the heat of the statement, chuckled while sipping the glass of wine.” Oh stop it Mum” Derrick frowned . “ My father worked so hard as a janitor, so sending my brother and I to school , and being able to cater for our needs is my father’s greatest achievement “Sally said looking so angry .” Everyone at the table was mute for a minute. Derrick held her hands and gave her a reassuring look to calm her down. She smiled and continued eating. “ Tell me Sally, what attracted you to my brother, I hope it isn’t true what they say , that paupers always find a place to dig for golds” Derrick’s sister, Betty said. Sally stood up at once” I beg your pardon “ she said angrily banging the table, Derrick stood up and tried to calm her down and rebuked his sister immediately. “ watch it Betty, you don’t say such things to beautiful people who are just joining the family , apologize this instance” Mr Musk cautioned. She apologized to Sally immediately.” Apology accepted, go and sin no more” Sally replied with disgust in her eyes. They both gave a long stare at each other , Sally who was so displeased with the whole situation, told Derrick she wanted to take her leave. She whispered to him to come see her off. They both excused themselves from the table , went outside and had a little talk. “ I can’t believe you couldn’t even stand up for me When your mother and sister talked about my family in that manner,bringing me here was a very bad idea, you brought me here to be looked down upon by your family, I won’t take that. You didn’t tell me it was going be a family dinner , I’d have hesitated and stayed back home. I was ready for this at all” Sally said , feeling so angry. Derrick looked confused for a minute not knowing the words to say , as Sally was filled with rage as one who has been tested with fire. “ My love, I promise you i had no intentions of bringing my family to this dinner, but they insisted I brought you to the family dinner , so they’d know whom I’m planning to spend the rest of my life with. I swear to you my love” he said running his hands down her cheeks and kissing her slowly.” Don’t try to buy me off with a kiss, I won’t fall for that” She said laughing and blushing so hard.” I think it’s working “ Derrick said and they both laughed. He hugged her and promised not to make any decision without her consent again. “ My father really likes you , I see the way he defended you “ Derrick said.” Something you couldn’t man up to do, your old man did “ Sally said teasingly . They both laughed and went back inside.” Sally darling, I want to apologize for my unmannered behavior, I was just looking out for my brother, I’m sorry “ Betty said feeling so remorseful. Sally went to her seat and gave her a warm hug. Everyone clapped and cheered. Sally returns into her seat, looked at Derrick and they both smiled to each other .

“ Tell me about yourself Sally, your family and everything I need to know” Mr Musk asked. Sally looked at Derrick, he held her hand and gave her a reassuring grin. “ My father is the head of janitors at West Inland Corporation. He worked there as a janitor before he was promoted to head of janitors. I have a brother who is 17 years old and I love him so very much. My mum is a full time housewife, her spaghetti and meat balls sauce is worth to die for, my grandmother owned a restaurant before she died, that was how my mum got her cooking prowess” she said smiling “ oh how about the restaurant, is it still functioning “ Mrs Musk asked “ No it isn’t , my mother couldn’t stand the site of running it alone after my grandmother died, she always said it brought about memories she didn’t want to remember, although it was my grandmother’s wish for her to keep the family legacy, but my mum couldn’t stand it” Sally replied. “ But do you have passion for cooking or would you wanna open your own restaurant “ Mrs Musk asked. Sally smiled “ I love cooking also, but studying Economics and working in an Economic institution has always been my dream” she replied. “ Well that dream is gonna be a reality, after your graduation, you can come work in my company , I see great great potentials in you . I’d be delighted if you’d consider the job offer” Mr Musk said . Sally looked at Derrick feeling speechless, it has always been her dream to work at Derrick’s father’s company. She heard numerous things on how hard it was for one to secure a job there, and she got hers easily.” Yes, I’d love to work in your company, it has always been my dream, I promise to give it my best sir” Sally replied. Well, what seemed to almost be a disaster , turned out to be in her favour . Sally was filled with joy, as she held Derrick tightly.

“Sally should spend the night at ours tonight” Derrick’s aunt said smiling. Looking at Derrick to convince sally to spend the night. Before Sally could say anything, “That’s a great idea aunt May” Derrick added. “ We’d love to welcome you properly to the Musk family” Derrick’s dad added . Sally gave a long smile , nodding her head in affirmation to what Derrick’s family said. “ A toast to Sally the newest member of the family “They all made a toast and cheered. Sally was lost in thought as she knew sleeping over at the Musk’s was a bad idea , but she had no choice because she loved Derrick, that was all that mattered to her at that moment .Soon the dinner was over and they left for the house all looking happy .
