"Farewell Commander!" Voices echoed throughout the desolate Battlefield, men standing in rows, all covered in dirt, fatigue written all over their faces, staring at a young man whose back was facing them as he walked toward an awaiting helicopter.
Bodies were all over the floor, but the men didn't seem to care less and only had eyes for the man who was departing, their eyes moist as they watched him enter the plane.
"At last," the young man muttered, getting into the helicopter and Finally turning around to look at the men saluting him, giving the place a final gaze.
They had just finished a battle, defeating all the enemies of the country in one fell sweep, making sure they were never going to rise from the ashes again.
It had been five years since he left his wife to join the military. Now, he has great achievements. It was time to go back and give her the world.
He could still hear the echo of disdain from everyone five years ago when the incident of the scandal had spread out due to unknown means.
Five years ago, he was just an ordinary dork worker. His mother died from illness and he was abandoned by the Davison family, who still had the guts to swallow up his mother's company.
At the same time, he was involved in a scandal with the president of the Highroyality Group and had no other choice but to marry into her family and was faced with disdain from his in-laws.
He had no idea how it had happened, the memories of that night were all fuzzy.
"Sir, we've arrived," A voice sounded, pulling Matt back to his senses.
"Home sweet home." Matt smiled, alighting from the helicopter.
Following behind him was a young man slightly younger than Matt, Max, his assistant.
"Welcome Home, supreme commander!" A voice drifted into Matt's ears, making him stop in his tracks to look at the other party.
"And you are?" Matt narrowed his brows, staring at the other party.
"I'm Jacob Cooper," The other party, a fat, short man with a pot belly bowed to Matt, sweat all over his face.
"I'm here to pick up the Supreme Commander, and would like to invite him to stay with the Cooper family."
"You're quite thoughtful." Matt walked toward Jacob and patted his shoulders.
"But, I don't think I have the luxury for now." He continued.
"But I'll remember and visit the Cooper family later on."
"Thank you Supreme Commander." Jacob bowed, his forehead still covered in sweat and he didn't dare to look at Matt.
After all, the latter was the God of war and was someone he didn't dare offend.
He had been lucky to somehow hear of the news of the return of the God of war. But even the prominent families in the city didn't know of the exact day.
But he made a gamble and came to the airport every day, adding to the fact that he recognized Matt since he had seen his picture once; he was confident.
Though the Cooper family was just a second-class family, he believed with Matt's support, he'd rise to the top in no time.
"Max let's go." Matt glanced at Max and walked away, heading out of the airport, his destination was set in his heart.
He wondered how the middle-aged man had known of his return; after all this time, he had made sure to bear all news of his return to avoid any family sucking up to him.
"Daddy!" A crisp, childlike voice cut through Matt's thoughts, forcing him to stop.
Before he could recover completely, a small figure ran into him hugging him tightly, and the next thing he heard was,
"Daddy, you're finally back."
Matt looked at the little girl with a cute face and a ponytail, who seemed to be about five years old.
"I'm not your daddy." He patted the girl's head and pulled her cheeks softly.
"No, you're my daddy." The Little girl shook her head stubbornly, glaring at Matt with fierce eyes.
"You can't just go around, calling everyone Daddy." Matt shook his head.
"You must be lost; come on, I'll take you to the security station; your parents will find you there." He continued and then carried the little girl.
"No, you're my daddy!" The little girl protested, but Matt didn't listen to her.
"Emma, where are you?!"
At another part of the airport, a beautiful woman in her late twenties, called, her face filled with worry as she looked around.
Just now, she had gone to take care of some things and told her daughter to wait, but who would have expected that she would run off?
"Emma!" The lady, Fiona called again, looking around as she hurried towards a direction.
"Mummy!" A little girl's voice sounded, and the girl who had just run into Matt came running toward Fiona.
Matt had taken Emma to the security unit and left. It was just then he left that Fiona came and Emma ran toward hard.
"Mummy, I saw Daddy!" Emma recounted, pouting as she stared at Fiona.
"Don't say nonsense, your dad is no more." Fiona smiled bitterly and hugged Emma, as a stream of memories flowed into her head.
She could still remember the handsome face of the Dockworker who got implicated because of her.
But at the same time, she felt a little bit of bitterness, remembering what her mother told her.
He had shamelessly demanded five hundred thousand dollars from her father and then he vanished.
Even though he vanished, she still insisted on giving birth to her child. As a result, she lost her company and was almost chased out of the family.
"Emma, next time don't go about calling random people dad." Fiona snapped out of her thoughts and stared at the little girl in her arms.
"But I saw Daddy." The Little girl was not willing to give up and pursued her lips.
"Listen to me, Emma, and be a good girl, alright." Fiona persuaded, her expression darkened over the persistence of the little girl.
"Fine." Emma pouted.
"Good girl." Fiona praised.
"Let's go home and mum will cook your favorite meal." She added, and with that walked out of the airport.
"Yay! Let's go." Emma's excited voice could be heard as they walked out of the airport.
