SAMANTHA'S POV The nice lady who bought me breakfast had left just, and I started feeling bad. I wanted to go after her and ask her if there was any way I could pay her back for the sandwich, but she had already entered her luxurious car, and the car sped off. Before leaving, her assistant had come to give me a tip offered by her, but I could not accept it. It was too much, she had bought me breakfast and I didn't know how I could repay her. When her assistant gave me the money, I returned it immediately. I told her that if she wanted to give a tip, she could drop it in the general tip jar that belonged to the café. She objected, but I insisted. When she saw my mind was made up, she didn't argue further but just tipped the café and left. I looked at the tip jar and put on a satisfied smile, seeing the café trive was already enough for me. I owed a lot to Vanessa. I was an orphan and had no relatives. I was always told that my family died and that no one ever came to claim me. When I was five, Nessa was brought into the orphanage. She was seven years old at that time. When she came, she was always distant and cold. One day, our care taker, Miss Shelly punished Nessa because she refused to give the only toy she came with to other kids to play with, Miss Shelly tried everything to persuade her to hand them out but she refused. Miss shelly became very furious that she asked Nessa to go on her knees for the whole noon. She also made her skip dinner. I felt sorry for her and decided to save her some desserts. At first, she refused it, thinking it was half done meat balls, but when she saw it was brownies, she took them instantly. In the orphanage, as you grow older, the more your food quality is detioriated and the less food you receive. So, since her arrival at the orphanage, this was the first time she had had brownies because of the meal she got for her age range. As we grew older, Nessa was the only person who took care of me she always shielded me from bullies. When I was hungry, she would give me most of the good part of her meal, she always told me it was nothing but it was a lot to me. When Nessa was eighteen, she had started a small coffee shop with all her savings. She offered me a job there as her first employee, she said I would be the head waitress. I had been working there for two years and some months now, so I would have something after leaving the orphanage. Now I was already eighteen, and it was time I left the orphanage. Nessa offered to take me in, but I refused. I didn't want to leach off her. She had done enough for me. *click* I saw a finger flick right across my eyes, which made me flinch. "Sam, how long are you going to be in a daze?" I heard Nessa. "I am sorry, I didn't realise you had arrived." I said. Earlier, she had gone to meet with a supplier. "Did we hit a jackpot today?" She asked, pointing at the tip jar. "A very nice lady came by and gave us a huge tip." I only told her about the tip, but mentioned nothing about the breakfast she bought me. If I told Nessa she would get upset because for the past eight months whenever she offered me a meal, I would pay her at the end of the month after receiving my salary. She often gave me free meals, but when I found out that there café was not on the right track financially, I decided to start paying first the meals. She was against it so by the end of the month she would have sumed up the total of what she offered during the month and add that amount to my salary and when I paid her my salary would remain the normal amount. When she started, she said it was a raise that the café had started doing great recently because of my hard work. I believed her until I heard some other waitress talking about how some of the bills had not been paid and how she had been working her a** of to keep the café steady. When I heard this, I confronted her immediately and made her stop giving me extra money. Thankfully, some months later, she was able to cover major bills. After today, I would finally free her from the burden of looking out for my interest. Today was my last day at the café as an employee, I was moving to the city to find a better job that would help me get into university. I would miss Vanessa, I looked at her with a pained expression. She caught the look and told me: "You know you don't have to go." "I know, but I want to make something of myself just like you." I answered her. "I am sure you will. Even better than me." She said, giving me a tight bear hug. "Tomorrow, I will personally take you to the bus stop." She added. "Thank you," I said. "You must visit when you have the chance to, and if things don't work out as planned, you are always welcomed." She said with an assuring voice. "Thank you." I said.
