SAMANTHA'S POV
"You?" We both yelled as our voices echoed in the shop.
"You, so you work here? And you were acting so high and might moments ago." It was the scammer I met moments ago.
"Ma'am, I have already placed you bad past behind. Why bring it up again?" I asked her.
"Huh?" She tilted her head and looked at me.
"I was lenient with you before because I thought you were some kind of heiress, but you are not. So that means I can teach you a lesson however I like." She said.
"Young lady, I want us to put what happened before in the past. I promise I won't tell anyone how you tried scamming me, and I will let you have whatever you order without judging you." I said as I calculated how fair and good the deal was.
"Who do you think you are?" She yelled.
"Lady, if I were you, I would not cause a scene so that those dirty secrets of yours would not spread flying across the room." I told her.
"Are you threatening me?" She asked.
"No. But if you call it that, no problem." I said.
"So, what would you be having?" I asked, ignoring her already fuming face.
"I would like to see your manager." She demanded.
"Oh, sure thing." I said as I went to get Miss Florence. I had nothing to be afraid of, so I went to get Miss Florence.
We both walked back to the young scammer, who was tapping her foot impatiently.
"Is she the one?" Florence asked, looking at the lady who was now staring out the window.
"Good evening, Miss." Florence said as the girl turned to face us.
When Florence saw her face, she gasped.
"Are you the manager?" The young scammer asked.
"Yes, Miss Rose." Florence said, calling her name with extra respect.
"You know me?" The girl, apparently bearing Rose, asked. While Florence nodded quickly in response. What was going on? I asked myself.
"Everyone in this city knows who you are." Florence said. Well, I didn't. I said in my mind.
"She apparently doesn't know who I am, slandering me, calling me a thief." The girl complained.
"Why would I need to steal anything?" She asked, acting all cute and innocent.
"I need her to kneel and apologise to me right this second." The girl made another abrupt request.
"Apologise to her." Florence said to me.
"Why should I? You haven't heard my part of the story yet." I argued.
"Since she doesn't want to, I think you should let her off so she can know what she did wrong?" Rose said.
"Apologise to her now, or you can kiss your job bye-bye. I don't want to do that, but if you don't do what she says, then I would have to." Florence whispered.
Since I needed this job and actually made a mistake by calling her a scammer, which she wasn't, as I had gotten to realise, I apologised to the young lady.
"I am sorry for calling you a scammer without no proof. Please do forgive and forget what I said?" I said to her.
"It's okay." She said to my surprise.
"That's why I will need you to resign." She added, crashing me.
"But I just apologised." I defended.
"Yes, you did, but not the way I asked. And more so, I am doing you a favour, letting you leave with your dignity intact and not calling the police on you for slandering. See this as compensation for my shoes." She said.
Florence wanted to say something, but Rose gave a warning look that made her stop.
"I am sorry, Samantha, please drop the approne, get your things, and leave." Florence said.
"What?" I said.
"I need this job." I said in a soft tone.
"You should have thought about that before crossing me." Rose said.
I looked at Florence, who just gave me a sad apologetic look.
I walked to the counter and dropped my approne, and picked my worn-out backpack.
"So sorry. You sure would get a new one soon." Sadie said.
"Thanks for your tutoring. Nice meeting you." I said as I waved at her and walked towards the door.
If I knew that losing a job was faster than getting one, I would have rather stayed with Nessa. I thought to myself.
Lucky me, there is still one more shot. I told myself.
Please don't meet anyone who may disturb you on your way. I said to myself, as I stood and carefully read the map before walking. This time, I was looking up not down anymore to avert what happened earlier.
I successfully got to the coffee shop, I walked in and asked for the manager like before. But the waitress I met told me straight up that if I was here for an interview, I was late that someone had gotten the spot already.
When she told me that, all I could say was thank you. And I just walked out of the coffee shop.
I started walking and thinking about everything that had happened in the past hours.
I really want to call Nessa. Then I remembered she had sent me the contact of the lady who went asking for me. I quickly opened my phone and went straight to Nessa's chats with me, and there was the number.
I clicked on the number and dialled it, praying it would be something good.
