6: Reading LessonsOne Saturday morning, after breakfast, seeing the garden bathed in summer sunshine, Jack took his notebook and went to sit on a bench under a chestnut tree. These days his poems as well as his thoughts were full of Eliza. Her image appeared as soon as he closed his eyes and every word that flowed from his pen was in some way inspired by her. It wasn’t just that she was beautiful. There was something about her that made perfect sense to him. He felt he had always known her, or had felt her lack before he had known her. Their being together seemed inevitable and incontrovertible. There had never been any awkwardness between them.
