Sleeping with My Brother

She took a step forward but Julio was still stuck in shock. ‘‘Julio,’’ she nudged him by the side, ‘‘Let's go, we can't afford to be caught.’’ Julio leapt to her and shook his head, ‘‘Then we shouldn't be running. We have to let him know.’’ ‘‘We can't,’’ she refuted, ‘‘He will want us dead the more.’’ They continued moving ahead with Hannah’s hand by his waist to support his movement. Her heart raced as they sprinted across the open prison yard. Ouch… Julio winced with every step, his injury weighing him down. ‘‘We are almost there,’’ She said, she didn't know where they were headed but she couldn't wait to escape from Don’s clutch. As they got out of the perimeter fence and walked down the road, a glimmer of hope blossomed in Hannah’s chest. ‘‘Look, there’s a car.’’ Her frightened face broke out into a smile and they lurched forward towards the black SUV that slowly approached them. She prayed silently under her breath that it wouldn't be Don or his men. The sleek black car screeched to a halt not far from where they stood. She held Julio’s hand tightly as the door to the car opened. ‘‘s**t!’’ she muttered when Teila stepped out of the car with Don and some men. ‘‘Get away from us,’’ Hannah said, moving backwards with Julio each step they took towards her. Don let out a snort in annoyance. He stood still and exhaled a deep breath to calm himself. ‘‘You clearly don't learn, do you?’’ He said with his teeth gritted. He found it silly that she had even attempted to escape from him. Was she that dumb to see the security cameras? He wondered. He pulled out his gun and shot it into the air when she still tried to run. ‘‘Let us go, please.’’ She looked at him pleadingly. ‘‘He is hurt and needs to be treated.’’ “Hannah,” he called, his voice low and dangerous. “You think you can do this running away?’’ Don grabbed Julio by his collar and put the gun to his head. ‘‘I should get rid of him right now. That is better.’’ ‘‘No, no,’’ She rushed in between them but he pushed her aside. Ahh… Hanah cried out in pain, spraining her ankle. ‘‘Fine, you win. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that.’’ She tried to get on her feet but stumbled. Don signaled to Teila and she came forward, assisting Hannah to her foot. She led her back inside the house while Don took Julio inside the car. ‘‘Here, eat this.’’ Teila brought a plate of meal to Hannah in the room. ‘‘I am not hungry.’’ She replied. Teila dropped the tray on the desk and crossed her arms, ‘‘Don't you learn anything? You have to obey or there will be consequences.’’ Hannah ignored her and continued massaging her sprained ankle. ‘‘Your brother will be the one to pay for every one of your actions. Now eat!’’ She directed her gaze towards the food. Left with no choice, Hannah took the tray and began eating. Teila rolled her eyes, she was getting tired of Hannah’s behaviour. ‘‘You should quit being a nuisance. You are just one of the women Don keeps, once he is done with you, he'll lose interest in you.’’ ‘‘So cherish the time you have now,’’ She laughed coldly and walked out of the room. Hannah gritted her teeth in frustration. She didn't care what Teila or anyone thought, all she wanted was to be free from them. She stared at the knife she had on the tray and kept it carefully under the pillow. She could feel fatigue wearing in on her so she decided to take a nap. *** Don entered Hannah’s room and stared at her peaceful face. It was difficult to believe she would be a feisty one when he first met her and he had thought she would be like the other girls he met. He dropped the first aid kit at the foot of the bed and walked to her bedside, staring at her facial features. The scar again… there was something familiar about it that he couldn't place his hands on. She muttered something in her sleep that made Don stare at her full lips, he moved his face down subconsciously until he was a few inches away from her. What are you doing, Don? He snapped out of it before his lips touched hers. He went back to the kit and sat on the bed. He took her sprained foot in his hands and lightly massaged it. Clumsy fool… you can't even take care of yourself. He said to himself. Hannah woke up with a start when she felt a hand on her leg. ‘‘What do you want?’’ She sat up straight in alarm, adjusting her night robe over her. He became agitated at her response. It broke his heart to know she thought he would always hurt her. ‘‘What do I want?’’ He pressed down her ankle, ‘‘To check if you are truly injured.’’ ‘‘Leave me alone, you jerk!’’ She kicked him with her foot but he caught himself from falling. ‘‘You think I can?’’ He got on the bed and crouched on her, holding her hands still. Hannah was tired of fighting with him so she let him have his way. He stared at her lustfully and lowered his head to meet her lips. She whined in pain when he sucked on her lips painfully and bit her hard. After what seemed like an eternity to Hannah, he slowly released her and stared into her eyes. ‘‘You are one feisty girl, you know that.’’ But she refused to answer him and looked away. ‘‘You can continue tending to your ankle yourself.’’ He got off her and strolled out of the room. Tears streamed silently down her cheeks as she sat on the bed, staring into the thin air in a daze. “Why?” she whispered, her voice barely breaking the silence. “Why did this have to happen to me?” She regretted that she had saved him at the bar, if she hadn't her parents would be alive and she wouldn't be in this mess. “If only I could turn back time,” she sobbed softly, her breath hitching as the weight of her sorrow became unbearable. “If only I could change it… just one moment…” But deep down in her, she knew she would do the same thing if given the chance. All she knew was that she saved the wrong man! She wiped the tears from her cheeks and took a deep breath. “I need to be strong for Julio.” She murmured to herself, a look of determination on her face. _ ‘‘I was beginning to think you won't come for breakfast,’’ Don said to her when she got to the dining table. He was seated at the dining table, flipping through a magazine. Hannah ignored his words and threw him an angry look. She was indeed famished but had hoped she could avoid seeing him. ‘‘Don't you have work to do,’’ She sat on the chair and the butler served her breakfast. ‘‘Speaking of work,’’ He looked up from the magazine, ‘‘We are going to your parent's company today.’’ Hannah opened her mouth in shock, ‘‘Why do I have to go with you? I'm not going.’’ ‘‘Last time I checked you are my fiancée and you also work there. Do not make me repeat myself.’’ He raised his voice in anger, his veins popping up in the neck. ‘‘You are my brother, why the hell would I continue to allow you to be my fiancè,’’ She murmured under her breath. ‘‘What did you just say?’’ He stared at her bewildered.
