Chapter 4 Call Me Daddy

1385 Words
Sherry created confusion, so her mood improved slightly. Even though Simon pinched her butt, just thinking about how Anna might be crying and throwing a fit over him made her happy. Of course, if Tommy hadn't gone missing, her good mood would have lasted a lot longer. “Sherry, you finally came out.” Mindy, with tears streaming down her face, cried out breathlessly, “I was just holding your son, or rather, your brother. He said he wanted to go to the restroom, so I let go. I waited for a long time and didn't see him come out, so I asked someone else to go in and look, but the restroom was empty.” “What!” Sherry's heart tightened instantly, and without hesitation, she rushed into the men's restroom. Tommy was huddled in the corner, worried that his mom couldn't handle the handsome man. So, when Simon pressed the elevator button, the little figure instantly caught his eye, “What are you doing here? This elevator is for authorized personnel only.” “Who is the authorized personnel?” Tommy asked, tilting his head. “The CEO.” Simon said with a serious face, pressing the button for the basement. Tommy thought for a moment, then clapped his fair little hands, “So, you are CEO?” Simon glanced at him with an expressionless face which was hardly friendly. “Mr... no, what should I call you?” Tommy stuck to him, reaching up to hug his thigh and looking up. “Whatever.” Simon, for once, didn't roughly kick this little kid away like he did with those clingy women, mainly because he thought that if he kicked him, the little kid might end up like a 'dead' kid. “Then I’ll call you dad!” Tommy declared, just as the elevator doors opened, and a group of employees happened to pass by. “Click——” Documents fell all over the floor, and the employees stood there dumbfounded, wondering... why was a little kid calling Mr. Miller Dad! Simon felt like his head was going to explode, and he gritted his teeth, “You can't call me that!” “Okay,” Tommy said, feeling very wronged by the shout, his voice nasally as if he was about to cry, “Daddy, you’re so fierce!” “……” Since I can't call you dad, calling you daddy is okay, right? Simon rubbed his temples, after being tormented by Sherry this morning, and now he was being forced to deal with a little kid that had popped up out of nowhere. He was so frustrated that his chest ached! The employees at the elevator door accurately caught the fleeting chill in Simon's eyes and hurriedly picked up the documents, scattering to escape. Simon opened the car door, threw the contract into the back seat, turned around, and looked expressionlessly at his front passenger seat, coldly saying, “Get out.” “I don’t want to,” Tommy shook his head firmly, “Daddy, I got lost. Can you help me find Mama?” “No.” Simon immediately refused. The building's PA system announced, “Tom, your mother is waiting for you at the security office. Please hurry over. Your mother seems a bit agitated.” Tommy sighed and gave Simon a pat on the shoulder, “Daddy, I am Tom.” “So?” Simon opened the car door, his voice was as cold as ice, “You should get out of the car.” “Alright,” Tommy pouted and climbed out of the car, with tear-filled eyes looking up at Simon. Sniffling, he said, “Daddy, where is the security office? It’s okay, I can go alone. I won’t get lost or have an accident.” “……” Simon slammed the car door, grabbed the little one's collar, and strode towards the security office. Sherry was sitting in the security room, her teacup still in hand when the little one burst in, “Mommy! I’m back!” “Running around again! Next time, if a bad person grabs you, I won’t care!” Sherry’s heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally relaxed as she checked him for injuries, then she straightened her face and pinched his cheek. “Ouch, ouch, ouch!” Tommy struggled, as if seeking credit, holding his waist and pointing towards the door, “I brought daddy back! Right here… Hey! Where’s daddy?” There was no one in the empty doorway. Sherry thought the little one was just babbling, helplessly thanked the security guard, and left with the little one in her arms. However, she didn’t notice that not far from the security office, Simon was frowning at Sherry and the child in her arms. How does she have a child?! The child looked to be only about three or four years old. An unsettling suspicion washed over him, and Simon’s fingers trembled slightly as he dialed his assistant’s number, “Find out Sherry Snow’s information. The more detailed, the better.” The seventy-square-meter room was a bit cluttered but tidy. As soon as the little one got home, he obediently went to wash his hands, then casually greeted the room, “I’m back!” “You are finally back!” A man's voice boomed through the room. Sherry hurried to see, only to see Liam tied to a chair, glaring angrily at Tommy. “Phew.” Sherry laughed and covered her mouth, apologizing to Liam's furious glare, “Sorry, can you tell me how you, a 6'11'' tall man, was tied to a chair by a little one just over three years old?” “I,” Liam snorted coldly, “I was playing ‘One, Two, Three, Wooden Head’ with him and fell asleep!” Well, with that level of intelligence, it was a fair match between him and Tommy. Sherry helplessly untied the rope, “I had an audition today and met Simon, but he probably didn’t recognize me and even signed a one-year contract with me.” “You’re out of your mind!” Liam suddenly raised his voice, “What happened in the past is behind us now. Can’t you just live a peaceful life with Tommy?” “No way!” Sherry frowned, “I need money, and… my sister… she died so mysteriously! I need to find out what really happened and get her the justice she deserves.” Liam seemed very frustrated, clenching his fists tightly, “You can’t take him on; she might have been killed by Simon.” “Impossible,” Sherry instinctively rejected. She turned her face away as she saw Liam’s surprised gaze, “Simon is heartless; someone like him is chillingly rational and wouldn't do something like that.” Liam pressed his lips tightly together. For the past four years, he'd watched Rose's every change, feeling heartache for this strong-willed woman every second. When it came to looks, figure, and personality, Rose was excessively harsh on herself. In the end, she became less like herself and returned to Simon’s side; was it really worth it? Which one was the real her, the shy, kind girl from before or the charming woman she is now? “You don’t have to say anything more,” Sherry took a deep breath, “I will send Tommy to kindergarten.” Tommy, holding an ice cream, peeked out from the corner, “If I go to kindergarten, then dad… oh no, Liam, won’t he have no excuse to come and see you anymore?” “……” Sherry helplessly rubbed her forehead, “Don’t talk nonsense; Liam comes to see you because he cares. We’re just friends.” Liam forced a smile and nodded, but he knew the real reason. Tommy turned and left, mumbling to himself. He had given all the chances, but Liam couldn’t seize them; when the time came for his mom to be taken away by dad, he’d just have to cry and figure it out himself. Just as Sherry finished making dinner for Tommy, she received a text message from the director, asking her to dress nicely tonight to meet the producer. “Looks like I gave them a bit too open of an impression today.”
