Chapter 6 Three Million for a Performance

1266 Words
“Miller Corporation doesn’t make unprofitable deals. Even if you’re the second female lead in this drama, your pay is only eight hundred thousand. Where do you get the courage to ask me for three million?” Simon reached out and lifted her chin, his smile cold, the last trace of tenderness in the room shattered with his words. “This amount of money is nothing to you, but it’s a lifesaver for me!” Sherry said earnestly, but the man in front of her only became more sarcastic. “You’re still the same as before, not a single honest word from your mouth.” Simon stood up and adjusted his sleeves, seemingly losing interest in her. Sherry maintained her smile, but her fists gradually tightened, her nails digging into her soft palm, numb to any pain. “I’ve signed a one-year contract with Miller Corporation. This three million is a loan, and I’ll pay you back within a year.” It turned out that everything that had been carefully presented before him, including asking him to come over in the text, was ultimately just because she wanted money. Simon’s smile grew more sarcastic as his one hand slid up to her waist, slowly moving up until it rested on her neck. “Your tricks are so predictable.” “It’s not about being new; it’s about being effective.” Sherry had no intention of explaining herself, instead going along with his words to tarnish her own image. Anyway, no matter what she said, it was all just her making excuses in Simon’s eyes. Her indifferent words only made Simon angrier. He slowly tightened his grip, almost choking her. “It’s just three million… act in a performance with me, and I’ll give it to you.” Sherry’s eyes instantly brightened, the hand on her neck released, and the cold air rushed into her throat, causing her to cough uncontrollably. “Acting! That’s my forte!” “I’ve always known.” Simon let out a chilling laugh, turned, and walked toward the door, his tone icy. Sherry was taken aback, a bitter smile slowly tugging at the corners of her mouth. Assistant Clark Hugh had been waiting outside, and upon seeing Simon come out safely, he finally let out a sigh of relief. “How’s the investigation?” Simon came down from upstairs, buttoning his collar as he listened to the assistant’s report. The lobby downstairs fell silent in an instant, all eyes watching Simon descending coldly, their gazes slowly shifting to the woman at the top of the stairs. Simon's eyelids twitched, and he looked up just in time to meet Sherry's alluring smile from above. Her red lips parted slightly, and in a lazy, sultry tone, she said, "Mr. Miller, don't forget what you promised me. I'll send my account details to your phone shortly." Clark watched as Simon stormed out with a cold expression, with a million questions left unasked. This was Simon's private life, and he had no right to intervene, but... "Mr. Miller, this woman shouldn't be Rose," Clark said, sitting in the car as the driver skillfully headed towards Miller's family. "The child's identity is still being investigated, but for the past few years, Sherry has been with her boyfriend, Liam Murphy, and they seem to be very much in love." In the rearview mirror, Simon's expression stayed grim, yet he did not refute Clark's words. The scenery outside the car sped by, and after a moment, Simon slowly spoke, "Let's go to the old house." It was dark in the night. Miller's old house appeared calm and peaceful. Mrs. Miller seemed to have already been informed of her son's arrival. She had someone waiting with an umbrella at the door, and hot tea was already prepared inside. "Why did you come alone? Where's Anna?" As soon as Simon entered, Mrs. Miller frowned slightly, seemingly blaming her son for neglecting his future daughter-in-law. "She wasn't feeling well, so she went back to rest." Simon said as he handed his coat to the servant and walked straight upstairs, seemingly wanting to go back to his room to sleep. "Why are you here again for the night? What's wrong with Anna's health? You two should hurry up and get married, so I can hold my big fat grandson!" Mrs. Miller was particularly fond of Anna, her eyes lit up with joy at the mention of her, clearly having already recognized her position in the family. Simon's face showed impatience, but he suddenly stopped in his tracks as his phone rang, revealing a string of bank card numbers. His thin lips pressed tightly together; why had he struggled so much for four years while she was carefree with another man? “Wanting a grandchild isn't that hard, is it?” Simon turned his head and casually swiped three million from his account to Sherry's. “I'll bring him back sometime.” “Huh? What do you mean?” Mrs. Miller’s eyes went wide. She was clearly confused by her son's words. By the time she came to her senses, Simon had already gone upstairs and closed the door. "Bring your son to Miller's old house this weekend." Sherry had just received the money and was hurrying to the hospital when she immediately received a text message from Simon. The red light ahead suddenly turned on, and Sherry abruptly hit the brakes, nearly colliding with a pedestrian crossing the street. When did he find out he has a kid?! Sherry's heart sank like a stone. She read the text message twice before finally letting out a slow breath. Simon said "your son", not "my son", which indicated that he didn't know whose child it was. Also… who would believe that she was pregnant when she left Simon? The rain kept pouring outside, and by the time she rushed to the hospital, it was already late at night. Dr. Lake stopped Sherry at the door of the ICU, gently pulled down his mask, revealing a young, handsome face. “Miss Snow, please don't worry. The surgery went pretty well, and she is no longer in life-threatening danger, but…” “But what…” Sherry's nerves were taut; she couldn't afford to lose any more family members. “The kidney transplant surgery can't be delayed, and there’s almost no hope for the HR blood type in the country. The patient can’t be moved to another hospital right now. If there’s enough money… things will get a lot better.” Dr. Lake lowered his head; his words were cold but realistic. Sherry's mother's life depended entirely on funds. Instead of racing against time to save her life, it was more accurate to say they were buying time. “I have plenty of money; please, you have to save my mom.” Sherry hurriedly took out the cash she had withdrawn on the way, her face pale as she grasped Dr. Lake's hand. Dr. Lake frowned. Her mother had been hospitalized four years ago due to a car accident, and Sherry had sold their house. Later, she gave birth to a child alone, living a hand-to-mouth existence—where’s she going to get that amount of money? “I found a new job, and this is an advance on my salary from my boss.” Sherry noticed the doctor's skepticism and quickly explained where the money came from, worried he might not want to help her. Dr. Lake believed her and, looking at the bundle of cash, couldn't help saying, “Your new boss sounds really nice!”
