Chapter 7 Shameless

1479 Words
“……” Sherry smiled awkwardly, cursing Simon vehemently in her heart. “At most two months, we need to find a kidney donor and funding; otherwise, we really can't hold on any longer.” Doctor Lake handed the money to a nurse beside him, asking her to help deliver it. Sherry stood by the hospital bed, looking at her once plump mother now lying on the bed like a skeleton, her sunken eyes lacking any spark of life. Her heart ached uncontrollably. However, she couldn't stay in the hospital for long; she was also worried about her child at home. She once again urged the caregiver to take good care of her mother and to contact her immediately if anything happened. “Miss Snow, you really don’t have to worry so much. Doctor Lake is very concerned about your mother’s illness. It must be hard for you to take care of the child alone, so why not…” Mrs. Landon meant well, but Sherry didn't catch the implication in her words. She slapped her forehead, showing a regretful expression, “Good thing you reminded me, Mrs. Landon! I need to give Doctor Lake a tip!” “……” Mrs. Landon stared in shock as Sherry shoved the money into her hands. She helplessly agreed to pass it on to Doctor Lake, although Doctor Lake would definitely not accept it. The sky outside had begun to lighten, the streetlights flickering, and the street vendors hadn’t set up yet, leaving the area particularly desolate. Sherry parked the car, completely unaware of the several men following her slowly from behind. The man in the car in the distance frowned and muttered under his breath, “Idiot.” Sherry was oblivious to the impending danger, walking, and before she could enter the hallway, she was blocked by a few thugs. “Hey, beauty, where are you in such a hurry to go? Why not play with us for a while before leaving?” The leading thug, sporting a gold tooth, leered at Sherry, his gaze both disgusting and lascivious as he wiped his mouth. “Sir, I don’t have any money on me, and I’m not what you’re expecting, so I might disappoint you.” Sherry smiled on her face, trying to stay calm, and reached for her phone, only to realize she had left her bag in the car. “What are you afraid of? We just want to have some fun with you; we won’t take your life, but I didn’t expect you to be this pretty.” The thugs exchanged glances and then chuckled. Sherry instantly sensed something and immediately retorted, “Did someone ask you? Who is it?” “You messed with the wrong people, so if you want to blame someone, blame yourself!” The thug said, lunging forward. Just as he was about to grab Sherry, she kicked him down to the ground. The gold-toothed thug clutched his groin, rolling on the ground in pain, gritting his teeth and snarling, “Grab this filthy woman! Let’s have some fun with her!” The thugs surged forward, and Sherry had no way to defend herself. In a panic, she ran a couple of steps but was struck on the calf by a metal rod from the pursuing thug. She fell. “Strip her clothes off…” The gold-toothed thug struggled to his feet with the help of his buddies. Just as he was about to swagger in front of Sherry, a man behind him twisted his arm, causing him to howl in pain. “If you don’t want to die, go!” Simon's voice was cold and sharp, his gaze like that of a hellish demon, devoid of any emotion. Sherry on the ground was taken aback, not understanding how he got here. “You i***t, are you blind! Do you know who has the final say in this area?” The gold-toothed thug still wanted to argue, but the next second, everyone heard a 'c***k' sound. His arm was twisted by Simon, making a cracking sound, causing him to sweat profusely and plead for mercy. “We were wrong! We'll leave right now! It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!” The gold-toothed thug's expression twisted to the extreme, he screaming in pain. Simon disgustedly threw him aside, stepping up to stand in front of Sherry, his expression condescending, his eyes filled with disdain. “Be careful!” Sherry was still shocked, looking at the iron rod being swung behind him, instinctively wanting to scream. Simon instantly sidestepped, hitting the thug hard in the face, knocking him unconscious with a single blow. The surrounding thugs were directly freaked out, hurriedly dragging their boss away. His golden teeth rolled to Simon's feet, but no one dared to pick them up. They quickly fled without a trace. Sherry sat dazed on the ground, staring at the empty street, as if everything that just happened was a dream. “Is it comfortable lying on the ground?” Simon's expression was cold. He looked down at the woman on the ground without any intention of helping her. “……” This wasn’t a dream; that demon was still here! Sherry helplessly reached for the wall, struggling a couple of times before finally managing to stand, gritting her teeth to take a step, but pain shot up her leg, causing her to fall back. Simon behind her instantly wrapped his arms around her waist, lifting her up with ease, frowning as he asked, “Are you limping?” “No, it's just that seeing you makes my legs feel weak, and I can’t move.” Sherry lowered her gaze to hide the anxiety in her eyes, feeling sharp pains in her leg, yet still gritting her teeth and refusing to speak. “Huh.” Simon smirked coldly, clearly not buying a word of it. He carried Sherry upstairs, moving easily, evidently having already investigated where she lived. Sherry remained silent, wrapping her arms around his shoulders, trying to figure out what he was thinking. In fact, Simon himself didn't know… he had just woken up and decided to take a walk, thinking about the information Clark had given him last night, and somehow ended up here… Sherry slowly got down from his arms, still afraid to touch the ground with her left foot, lightly knocked on the door, and a commotion came from inside. “Thank you, Mr. Miller, for bringing me back. I won’t forget your kindness. My legs are inconvenient, so I won't see you off…” Sherry politely tried to send him away, subconsciously not wanting him to see Tommy. Simon coldly glanced at her, “You don't need to see me off. I'll come in to take a break.” “……” Isn’t this a bit shameless? Sherry was dumbfounded; Simon wasn’t this kind of person before! The sound of the door lock being opened came from inside. As soon as Tommy opened the door, his gaze landed on Simon, and he couldn't look away. “Who is this…” Sherry quickly tried to introduce him, but unexpectedly, Tommy rushed over and chirped, “Daddy! You’re here!” Sherry's mind buzzed. She was standing there in a daze, unable to utter a single word. In contrast, Simon remained much calmer, expressionless as he carried the little boy into the house. “Daddy, are you here to see me? Hurry and sit down, I’ll go get you some juice!” Tommy, being all sweet, tugged at Simon's hand and, with his short legs, ran towards the kitchen. Sherry swallowed hard, stood on tiptoe, and awkwardly sat down next to him, “This child…” “You don’t need to explain anything to me. We’re divorced, and your remarriage has nothing to do with me.” Simon's expression was stern, his voice not loud, but it carried a suppressed anger. Sherry opened her mouth as if to argue, but the words got stuck in her throat. No way! If he found out Tommy's true identity, given his temper, she might never see the child again in her life! “Sorry, I’m not Rose. This child is mine, and has nothing to do with you. As for who the child's father is… you don’t need to worry about it. It could be anyone…” The more Sherry thought about it, the more she realized she couldn't let Simon know Tommy’s real identity, and she felt the need to tarnish her own image. “Shut up!” Simon covered her mouth with one hand, pushing her down onto the sofa, his voice low and firm, “I’m not interested in your private life!” Tommy's footsteps grew closer, so Sherry quickly nodded vigorously, signaling that she understood. Just a second before Tommy walked in, he let go of Sherry.
