Two days later, I stood in the break room of Cain’s company, staring blankly at the vending machine. The bright, colorful packages of snacks blurred as my mind wandered to the events of the past forty-eight hours. Cain had been... different. Colder. Distant. Not that I hadn’t noticed before.
