He groaned, a deep, satisfied sound. "Yes! Show me your strength! Show me you are mine!"
We became entangled in a wild, primal dance, our bodies slamming together, our breaths mingling. It was terrifying, but it made me feel alive. It made me feel powerful. When we both climaxed, it was an explosion—of power, of claim, and of a bond that had become unbreakable.
We lay there, panting, our bodies gleaming with sweat and satisfaction. Alex shifted and pulled me into his arms.
"Tomorrow," he whispered, his voice soft now but with an iron-hard resolve, "we go to battle. And you are ready."
At the first light of dawn, we set out. Alex loaded us into a jeep, and we drove deep into the forest. The air was cold and harsh, and the trees formed a creepy canopy above us. As we went further, the scent of "The Grey One" began to permeate the air—a rotten, evil smell that made my soul shudder.
Suddenly, Alex stopped the jeep. "We go on foot from here," he said, his eyes alert.
We walked into the woods, and with every step, the evil smell grew stronger. Then, we heard voices—human voices, but with an animalistic rasp to them. Marcus's pack.
We peered from behind the bushes, and the sight that met my eyes made my blood run cold. Marcus and three of his cohorts were standing in front of the mine's entrance. But they were not alone. My mother was there, her face wearing a vacant, entranced expression. She was looking at them as if she were their slave.
"What is she doing here?" I whispered, my voice filled with dread and anger.
"She is their power source," Alex answered, disgust in his voice. "'The Grey One' is feeding them power through her."
Just then, Marcus turned to my mother. "We need more power," he growled. "We need to find that girl."
My mother nodded, a mechanical gleam in her eyes. "She is with Alex. She is his marked one."
"We will have her," Marcus said, and then he grabbed my mother's hair and forced her to her knees. "But for now, you are ours."
I watched as he took her violently, and there was no emotion in my mother's eyes, only a hollow obedience. Watching it, the last shred of sympathy I held for her died. She was no longer my mother; she was merely a tool.
Alex squeezed my hand. "Not now," he whispered. "We need to get inside the mine. That is where 'The Grey One' is."
We slipped inside the mine through another entrance. It was dark and damp inside, and the evil smell was even stronger. We moved deeper into the darkness, and then, we saw him.
In the center of the mine stood a massive, grey wolf. But it was no ordinary wolf; it was translucent, like a ghost. Its eyes were red, and they held a mad, destructive rage. This was "The Grey One."
He looked at us, and a hoarse, pained voice filled the air. "You have come. I have been waiting for you."
Alex pulled me behind him. "You will not touch my marked one," he growled.
"But I want to," The Grey One said, his voice a poisonous whisper. "She will be mine. And you... you will be my new vessel."
He lunged at us, and the battle began.
"But I want to," The Grey One said, his voice a poisonous whisper. "She will be mine. And you... you will be my new vessel."
He attacked, and the battle began.
He was like a phantom storm—swift, intangible, and lethal. He lunged at Alex, his translucent claws tearing through the air with a supernatural force. Alex tried to block him, but The Grey One's assault was so ferocious and emotionless that he was forced back.
"Julie, get back!" Alex yelled, his eyes fully transformed into that predatory green, his nails lengthening into claws.
But I did not retreat. I felt the spark—the bond that connected us. I closed my eyes and focused on it, letting it flow towards Alex. A wave of shimmering, golden light erupted from within me and crashed into him. He let out a tremendous roar, and his power doubled. He shoved The Grey One back with a powerful thrust, forcing the specter to recoil.
The Grey One let out a hoarse, surprised shriek. "Impossible! A marked one cannot bestow such power!"
"This is no ordinary marked one," Alex snarled, his teeth now sharp and elongated. "She is my True Mate."
He attacked again, and this time, he was gaining ground against The Grey One. But just then, Marcus and his pack, hearing the sounds of our battle from outside the mine, charged in.
"Stop them!" Marcus shouted, and his three cohorts, their eyes gleaming with madness, descended upon Alex.
Now Alex was surrounded—The Grey One from the front and Marcus's pack from behind. I watched him struggle, blow after blow landing on him.
"No!" I screamed, and without thinking, I raised my hands. The golden spark flared again, but this time, it shot from my palms and struck one of Marcus's men. The man screamed in pain and staggered back, smoke rising from his shoulder as if he'd been burned.
Everyone froze in shock. The Grey One paused to look at me, a new, deep craving in his red eyes. "What... what are you...?"
But he didn't finish his sentence. Alex seized the opportunity and landed a powerful blow on The Grey One, forcing him back further.
"Julie, run!" Alex yelled, a desperation in his voice I had never heard before. "He will kill you!"
"No," I said firmly, my voice steady now. "I will fight with you."
I reached for my power again, channeling it towards Alex. This time, I didn't just give him strength; I shared my thoughts, my senses. I saw The Grey One's movements, I felt his weaknesses. And Alex felt them too.
He pivoted sharply and struck at a spot on The Grey One that I had visualized. The Grey One shrieked, and his translucent form flickered unstable.
"This is not over!" The Grey One growled, and then, he vanished, dissolving into a cloud of black smoke.
Marcus and his men, now leaderless, faltered and began to retreat. But Alex did not let them go. He fell upon them, his growls bestial and terrifying. He incapacitated them one by one, leaving only Marcus, who kept backing away, fear in his eyes.
"Your leader has fled," Alex growled, advancing on Marcus. "Now it's your turn."
"Wait!" Marcus cried, throwing his hands up. "I... I can tell you where he is! Where he's hiding!"
Alex stopped, his eyes narrowing. "Speak."
"He... he's in your mansion," Marcus panted. "He's hidden in the place closest to you. In the wall of your study. The source of his power is there."
My heart seemed to skip a beat. Our safe place... he had been there all along?
Alex's face turned to stone. He delivered a powerful punch to Marcus, knocking him unconscious. Then he turned to me.
"We have to go back," he said, a burning anger in his voice. "Now."
We drove back in the jeep, and this time, Alex drove at breakneck speed. He was silent on the way, but I could feel his rage and worry—through our bond.
"Can it be true?" I asked, softening my voice. "Is he really in our home?"
"Yes," Alex said harshly. "It makes sense. He would be drawn to my power. And yours. He would want to be closest to us."
When we reached the mansion, the evil smell was in the air again, but this time it was faint, as if hiding. Alex went straight to the study, and I followed close behind.
The room looked the same—quiet, orderly. But Alex's gaze fixed on a particular wall, where an antique sword was mounted.
"Here," he said. He took down the sword and pressed on the wall. A click sounded, and a section of the wall slid open, revealing a hidden room.
It was dark inside, and the evil smell was stronger here. We stepped in, and as our eyes adjusted to the gloom, we saw it.
In the center of the secret room was a stone pedestal, and on it rested a black, pulsating crystal. This was the source of The Grey One's power.
"It must be destroyed," Alex said, and he raised the sword.
But then, a familiar voice stopped us.
"Stop."
We turned. My mother was standing in the doorway, but her eyes were no longer vacant. They held a strange, metallic gleam. And her voice... it was no longer her own. It was the voice of The Grey One.
"You," Alex growled.
"Yes," The Grey One said through my mother. "I have chosen this vessel for myself. It is more... suitable."
I was stunned. The Grey One had possessed my mother's body.
"Get out of her," I said, my voice shaking with anger and fear.
"Why?" The Grey One smiled, and the smile was unnatural and terrifying on my mother's face. "This body is already saturated with my energy. It is a perfect vessel. And with it, I can feel you even more closely, Julie. Your power... it is so sweet."
