Alex's eyes locked onto Kevin's, sensing the dark energy coursing through his veins. Bruno trembled beside him, fear etched on his face.
"Kevin, what's happened to you?" Alex asked, his voice laced with concern.
Kevin's smile grew wider, his eyes gleaming with malevolence. "I've been reborn," he hissed, his voice no longer his own.
"I don't know what Klaus has told you, but he lied, Kevin. Do not believe a word he says. Klaus doesn't want what's best for you. He wants to kill you," Alex said to Kevin who laughed out loud.
Kevin gently approached them and Bruno took a step back in fear, but Alex stood his ground.
"Klaus has shown me power beyond my wildest dreams. I could be a great Knight now, an excellent diplomat. I do not expect the likes of you to understand. After all, you are nothing but a servant!" Kevin yelled at Alex who frowned at the remark. Even now, Kevin still loathed him.
"Klaus has promised me power if I kill you. And I'm going to do it, Alex. I'm sorry it came to this. But you know I must fend for myself!" Kevin replied and charged at Alex.
With a flick of his wrist, Kevin summoned a swirling vortex of shadows. The darkness lunged at Alex and Bruno, who leaped apart to avoid the attack.
Alex countered with a burst of golden light, conjuring a shield of shimmering runes. The shadows recoiled, hissing as they dissipated.
Bruno joined the fight, unleashing a wave of fire that danced across the room. Kevin raised a hand, and the flames were extinguished by an unseen force.
"You are no match for me!" Kevin growled as he prepared another spell.
Just then, Master Orion burst into the room, his eyes blazing with determination.
"Klaus, you will not claim another soul!" he declared.
With a swift gesture, Master Orion summoned a blazing pentagram. The symbol pulsed with holy energy, aimed directly at Kevin.
"Exigens spiritus tenebrarum, egredere!" Master Orion commanded.
Kevin's body tensed and convulsed, Klaus's presence straining against the exorcism. But the dark entity proved too powerful, shattering the pentagram and sending Master Orion stumbling back.
Alex seized the opportunity. He focused on the words Master Orion had spoken, committing them to memory.
"Exigens spiritus tenebrarum, egredere!" Alex echoed, his voice infused with newfound confidence.
A brilliant light erupted from Alex's hands, enveloping Kevin. Klaus's presence screamed in rage as the spell took hold.
Kevin's body began to tremble, his eyes flashing between his own and Klaus's. The dark energy recoiled, struggling to maintain its grip.
"Expello tenebras, restituo animus!" Alex continued, his magic fueled by determination.
Kevin's form began to shift, his features contorting in agony. Klaus's hold faltered, and for an instant, Kevin's true self shone through.
With one final burst of energy, Alex expelled Klaus's spirit from Kevin's body.
Kevin collapsed, gasping for air. Master Orion rushed to his side, relief etched on his face.
"Well done, Alex," Master Orion said. "You've saved Kevin. Klaus is gone now."
All seemed well until Alex felt a sharp headache. Alex's legs buckled, his vision blurring as the spell's aftermath hit him. Master Orion and Bruno rushed to his side, supporting him in the dimly lit room.
"We have to get him to the healers!" Bruno cried out as Alex collapsed. Master Orion quickly picked him up and rushed down the corridor. The flickering torches cast eerie shadows on the stone walls as they made their way to the infirmary.
Kevin watched them leave, his anger simmering. He stormed back to his room, slamming the door shut. The sound echoed through the empty hallway.
The scent of herbs and medicinal potions enveloped them as they entered the infirmary. Soft candlelight illuminated the rows of beds, where students recovering from various injuries and illnesses rested. Master Orion gently laid Alex on a vacant bed, and Bruno helped him settle in.
In the infirmary, Alex's eyelids fluttered open to find Aurora's concerned face above him. Her golden hair cascaded down her shoulders, framing her gentle smile.
"Hey, you're awake," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alex tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness forced him back onto the bed. Aurora's slender fingers brushed against his forehead, cooling his feverish skin.
Aurora's gaze never left his. "You used a lot of magic to expel Klaus. You're safe now; he's gone."
"I fell for Klaus'tricks in the past. Although he's gone, I still feel the weight of my actions. What if I make a mistake again?" Alex said and sighed. Aurora, with a brilliant smile on her face, gently took his hand.
"You're special, Alex. You have a gift. Don't let anyone, including yourself, make you doubt that. Plus, you made everything right in the end. That is all that matters," Aurora said with love in her tone.
For a moment, Alex was lost in her eyes. They were enchanting. They drew him in as he tried to reach for a kiss.
Just then, the infirmary's door creaked open, and Bruno burst in, his face flushed with excitement. His presence broke the moment.
"Guys, have you heard? The graduation ceremony for the final year mages is next week! Everyone's buzzing about it." Bruno blurted out.
Aurora's eyes sparkled. "That's exciting! You'll get to show off your skills, Alex." She said to Alex.
Just then, a Sentry knocked on the door and his armor gleamed in the soft light as he approached them.
"Aurora, you have a caller," the Sentry announced, his voice low and formal.
Aurora's expression turned curious. "Who could that be?"
The Sentry bowed. "Her Majesty, Queen Lirien, requests your presence, Princess."
Aurora's face paled, and she rose from her chair. "I'll attend to her immediately."
Alex's instincts screamed warning. What did the queen want with Aurora?
As Aurora left, Alex exchanged a concerned glance with Bruno.
"What's going on?" Alex asked.
Bruno shrugged. "No idea, but with the graduation ceremony approaching, things are about to get interesting. We must be prepared."
Alex wasn't convinced. He knew that something was very wrong.
