Lydia immediately held her hands up to stop him from saying anything. “I will not say a word if you close that back up immediately—without removing anything,” she added, not certain that the stipulation wouldn’t be obvious.
He did as she said, keeping one eye on the door as he relocked the safe, closed a hidden door, locked that, and then closed the desk.
He stood before her, his face serious and worried, as it should have been.
“I expect a full explanation of this,” she informed him. She was about to say more when she heard footsteps approaching. “But not here and not now,” she said quickly. “You may pick me up at my home tomorrow at three and take me for a drive through the park. Number ten, Carlton Street.”
