I was raving mad as I tugged my shirt down. It was two days after I kissed Aysa and he hadn't been to school or replied to my text. It felt like a one-night stand.
On the other hand, Soren had gotten my number and an hour after school was out today, my phone had pinged with a text from him. He wanted me to have dinner at the steakhouse with him.
God! He was getting on my very last nerve.
I swiped the car key from the counter and snickered.
"You give a boy a kiss and he disappears" I wiped the tears from my eyes with the back of my hand and hurried out.
I arrived at the restaurant thirty minutes later than the agreed time. The restaurant was poorly lit. Maybe it added to the allure of whatever the manager was trying to do.
Soren was seated in a far corner separated from the rest of the customers. There were six werewolves around him. All clad in casual clothes.
They blended in perfectly. No one would notice they were the prince’s priced guards.
People gawked shamelessly at him but I had all his attention as I slid into the seat in front of him. His guards left, disappearing into the shadows but I knew they were watching.
“People are staring” I hissed when he leaned in to place a soft kiss on my cheek.
“Let them” he whispered, settling back in his seat.
I couldn’t help but stare at him. The streak of red hair that fell over his green eyes had me wondering if it was dyed or natural. As if sensing my train of thought, he answered my silent question.
“It’s natural. Like a birthmark” he sipped the red liquid from his glass. Was he old enough to drink?
“I didn’t ask” I looked away.
“But you thought it” he shot back.
I scowled at him. It seemed to amuse him more since he let out a low throaty chuckle, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. “Did you learn nothing in were studies last year?” he laughed.
“I wasn’t interested in learning about werewolves” I replied. It was the truth. I hated werewolves after a particular night in my life. A night that changed everything. I knew Soren suspected my vendetta against his kind.
“And yet here we are” he held out his arms.
Anger. Pure, white, blinding anger coursed through me. I picked up my glass and gulped down the non--alcoholic wine he had ordered on my behalf before anger could push me to stab him with my fork.
What was Aysa doing at this moment? I smiled to myself as I remembered our kiss.
Had I done something wrong during the kiss? Or did I do something wrong before the kiss?
I shook my head, he wouldn't have kissed me if I did something wrong. It was after. I probably said or did something wrong after the kiss.
“I’ll tell you something, sweetheart. The one streak of colour in a werewolf’s hair, tells you a lot about them. Important things. Blue is for alphas and their children. Red is.......” he paused, staring at me intensely. The look went as quickly as it came and was replaced with a cocky smirk.
“Continue” I pressed, wanting to know the meaning of his red hair.
“And we have those with immeasurable beauty like myself”
“You’re so full of it” I rolled my eyes.
He finished his wine and we ordered our food. I was famished. I gobbled up the whole plate of steak. Saint looked at me with a teasing glint in his eyes.
“Oh f**k off. I won’t accept your apology otherwise” I smiled.
His body tensed up at my smile and he looked at me differently.
That’s why I hated smiling. Everyone had the same reaction to my fangs. I was a human with fangs. My smile quickly dropped and I cleared my throat uncomfortably.
“Don’t stop smiling Alphy. It’s beautiful. I was just stunned. You’ve never offered me a smile before.”
I didn’t respond. I didn’t know what to say.
“But now I’ll have to be very cautious. You might wound me with your fangs. You make a very gorgeous vampire” he deadpanned.
A few moments passed before I snickered. He snickered with me and soon we were both laughing our hearts out. He threw his head back and laughed whiles I laughed into my hand. When I grew comfortable, I let him see me laugh without covering my mouth.
The night went on with a chatty conversation and plenty of jokes. Soren was a charming, goofy person. A different waitress brought us our tab.
A pretty brunette with a sickish-looking green strand of hair tucked behind her ears. I looked at saint for an explanation.
“An omega” he chuckled bitterly and shook his head.“She wasn’t one before I can assure you”
Our waitress gasped and our chocolate pudding slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor with a loud crash.
“I’m sorry.....I’ll......I’ll....I’ll...get...I’ll get...I’ll get someone to clean it up and a new desert. ” she stammered and hurried away like her ass was on fire. A new waitress served us. We finished dessert in silence.
Once we were done with dinner, Soren offered me his arm and walked me to my car. His guards trailed behind us in the dark.
“Dinner was lovely and everything has been forgotten” Soren assured me, closing my car door when I got in and turning to his guards.
Before he could leave, I called out to him.“Soren?”
“Yes Alphy” he stared at me, an unknown emotion swirling dangerously in his eyes.
“I want to get drunk”
“It’s a school night” he c****d a brow at me.
I was hot. Too hot.
I stepped down from my car.
“I don’t care and you don’t seem like the type who cares either,” I muttered, my tongue darted out to wet my lips.
His eyes darkened at the movement.
“Come” he commanded.
It must have been the three glasses of wine because Alphea Zaylie Rosebourne would have never walked up to a werewolf.
“Take her car home” he instructed one of his guards.
"how did you know where I live?"
“My father’s a king. I figured it the out” he repeated my words from this morning.
I giggled. He was a piece of work.
Soren held my chin gently between his fingers and studied me. I knew I was flushed and a little tipsy but from the look on his face, I was probably worse off than I thought. He placed his arms beneath my knees and on my back and swept me off my feet. Soren carried me to a sleek black car and held me in his arms as the car sped away.
A few minutes later, the car pulled up in the parking lot of the prime complex.
"This is an expensive place” I hiccuped as my vision swayed and Soren's blonde hair turned black. His green eyes changed into a dark purple colour.
Aysa?
“Are we paying?” I asked, confused at why I was seeing Aysa instead of Soren.
"It was a birthday present.”
I wondered if the apartment or the whole apartment complex was a gift.
He wrapped his arm around my waist and walked us to the elevator.
The penthouse screamed one word.
'Wealthy’ .
He helped me get seated on a couch and handed me a glass of water.
“Looks like someone put Mirthwood in your wine” he explained.
“Must be why I want to kiss you so bad. What’s mirthwood?” I slurred, smiling at Aysa.
“The reason why you want to kiss me so bad” he chuckled.
“Well, can I?” I clapped my hands together like a six-year-old meeting Santa.
“Can you what?" he frowned.
"Can I kiss you, Aysa?” I smiled giddily.
Aysa laughed. “Go to sleep Alphea. I’ll let your mum know you’re safe”
He pushed me back into the couch and left when I settled beneath the blanket he had brought me.
“I really do want to kiss you. Thank you, Aysa” I murmured sleepily. I felt lips press against my forehead before darkness consumed me.
